Position Qualifications:

  • Basic life support training through American Heart Association.

  • Must have high school dipolma or equivalent.

  • 1-2 years of experience of patient care technician experience or as a CNA. 1 year of GI tech experience or related experience.

Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Acute Care Medicine manage patients with a full range of clinical issues-from significant blood dyscrasias, advanced endocrine pathology, heart and renal failure, GI conditions, infectious diseases, asthma and a multitude of other conditions and diseases. Because of our patient acuity, we provide advanced training to bring new nurses to the highest level of functioning. Each unit is lead by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse. The unit is supported by an advanced practice nurse. Additionally each unit is assigned a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team works in conjunction with the physicians, nurses and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care. Join Us! Role Purpose Procedural PCTs work under the supervision and delegatory authority of the physician and nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive and non-invasive medical/surgical procedures, ensuring that the environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Procedural PCTs are competent in the theory and application of the principles of asepsis and sterile technique to combine the knowledge of human anatomy, medical/surgical procedures, and implementation and tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. In addition, responsibilities involve the performance of clinical support functions, patient care interventions, preparation/assisting of patients for treatment, unit, bedside operating and medical procedures. Responsibilities Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.Participates in activities that promote safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development and life long learning, as well as acting as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.Implement direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Administers or assist patients with ADL, performs VS, I&O, fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, foley care, phlebotomy, EKG, or point of care testing as requested. Collects clinical data and information on patients, and reports changes in patient status to the nurse.Set up the equipment and supplies for unit based procedural and operations medical procedures, such as bronchoscopy, lumber puncture, chest tube placement, pacer placement and biopsy as directed by the assigned physician. Includes the cleaning of duty specific equipment and use of atypical equipment using basic asepsis and sterile techniques. They assist with the sterile field and perform Stop the Line during any period of the procedure they see unsafe practice.
