This position is open to current employees of the Department of Juvenile Justice only. This position ensures the protection of the Commonwealth by assisting the courts, holding juveniles accountable for their actions and affording them opportunities to reform in accordance with identified needs, application of the balanced approach, DJJ Standards, and state and local law.
Serves as an EPICS Coach. Reviews EPICS tapes for quality assurance purposes. Keeps supervisor informed of employees' workplace concerns and assist supervisor in addressing these concerns as requested.
Serves as first point of contact for CSU probation officers during absence of supervisor. Successfully develop, implement and lead a CSU staffing process for youth recommended for out of home placement and youth identified as high risk on the YASI risk assessment. Successfully implement and lead evidence based groups for youth under the jurisdiction of the Court Service Unit.
Extensive working knowledge of juvenile justice system. Knowledge of adolescent treatment modalities; knowledge of juvenile justice system and principles and practices of court proceedings; skill in interviewing and counseling; effective written and verbal skills; ability to accurately assess client needs; ability to identify and utilize community service agencies; ability to interpret regulations, guidelines, and statutes.
Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or related field; experience in counseling youth and families. Prior work experience as a juvenile probation officer. Must maintain a valid Virginia Driver's License.
