Job Summary
Is responsible for conducting interviews and preparing pre-sentence reports and substance abuse evaluations or any other report that has been requested by the judge pertaining to the disposition of a matter involving offenders before the court. Monitors offenders that have been sentenced by the court to probation formalizing a plan of action to assist the individual with compliance of the court directives.
Meets with probationers and monitors their progress toward social and economic adjustments and maintains detailed case records, reporting to the court as necessary. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
Minimum Qualifications
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Under the Merit System Resolution, Section II, adopted November 8, 1966, employees in this class are excluded from the Merit System for the purpose of the manner of selection, appointment, removal from office or limitation or political activity.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
1.Possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Human Resource Development, or closely related field.
2.Have at least one (1) year of full-time experience supervising an adult probation or corrections caseload.
3.Possess State of Michigan Certification as an Assessment Referral Management Specialist (ARMS) and/or Certified Addictions Counselor (C.A.C.).

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
1.Considerable knowledge of and skill in interviewing and investigation techniques.
2.Reasonable ability to prepare and present technical written and oral reports.
3.Reasonable knowledge of counseling practices, procedures, and techniques.
4.Reasonable ability to communicate under adverse conditions with distressed people.
5.Reasonable ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with other employees, administrators, and the general public.
6.Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and/or agencies.
7.Reasonable ability to carry out written and oral instructions.
8.Reasonable ability to cope with difficult situations requiring immediate decisions in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
9.Reasonable ability to present reports and programs to organized groups in the community.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1.Obtain and maintain one or more of the following certification(s): Fundamentals of Alcohol and Other Drug Problems(F.A.D.O.P.) or as an Assessment Referral Management Specialist (ARMS) and/or Certified Addictions Counselor (C.A.C.).
