San Bernardino County's Probation Departmentis recruiting for ProbationCooks II who participate in and serve as lead workers over the serving and production of daily meals at a Juvenile Detention and Assessment Center. Positions oversee and train food service personnel in the preparation of meals and catered events; serve and oversee the serving of meals; assist in the preparation of menus, daily and monthly meal counts, and daily meal production (food usage) reports; and determine quantities of food to prepare.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Work Shift:Incumbents may be required to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and overtime.
Location:These positions are located at the Juvenile Hall locked facilities, in San Bernardino and Apple Valley.
Background:Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass abackground investigation. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony or currently be on court ordered probation (or have been with the last year).
Travel:Throughout the County may be required to fulfill shift demand and meet operational needs. A valid California Class C driver license and automobile liability insurance is required for individuals providing transportation.
Physical:This position requires lifting of up to 50 lbs., standing, squatting, and reaching.
Certificate:Incumbents must obtain a San Bernardino County Food Handlers' Certificate within two (2) weeks of appointment and obtain a ServSafe certification within the first six (6) months of employment.
Sponsorship:San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the options listed below:
Option A:One (1) year of (full-time equivalent) experience as an institutional cook in a correctional facility, hospital, school, military facility, hotel, banquet hall, or similar institution, performing large quantity cooking, preparing single recipes in batches to serve 200 personsor more at a time.
Option B:Two (2) years of (full-time equivalent) experience performing as acookin a fast food, restaurant, or similar environment,which must include at least one (1) year in a lead capacity. Lead experience must be clearly detailed in the work experience section of your application.
Desired Qualifications
Theideal candidateis a current food industry employee who is well organized, giving attention to detail, customer service and safety; demonstrating their passion for cooking, has experience cooking at an industrial level, creating delicious recipes with experience accommodating to the medical needs of their clientele. Has lead and/or supervisory experience as a Correctional Cook, maintains a ServSafe certification, and the ability to articulate proper food handling, storage,and the different cooking techniques such as stewing, roasting, boiling and baking.The incumbent is a team leader who has strong work ethics, integrity, versatility, and gives attention to detail.
