Performs phlebotomy procedures, schedules tests and conducts test procedures. Cleans laboratory equipment as necessary and assists in clerical duties of the department, such as answering phones and ordering supplies. Performs duties in an independent manner with little or no direct supervision.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Verbal communication skills required to explain procedures to patients

  • Knowledge of human development process and ability to work effectively with patients of all ages required

  • Writing skills required to maintain various records

  • Ability to order tests and/or test results on a computer terminal required

  • Must have physical ability to walk long distances for long periods of time, lean across the bedside to draw blood, or to push a cart

  • Must be able to carry a phlebotomy tray and lift and carry a filled gallon bottle

  • Must be able to work weekend, holidays, and rotate various shifts, if needed

  • Certification in phlebotomy and course in medical terminology preferred

Serves as the initial contact person and primary telephone contact for the Department. Coordinates with Medical Staff Office and area Universities to meet the needs for clerkship, residency and physician/APN staffs assigned to the Department. Provides high level of administrative support to ensure that information essential to effective management of the Department is collected and disseminated. Works in collaboration with other department staff to achieve operational objectives. Required Skills * Bachelor's degree required in a related field such as health sciences, business, public administration or education, or a combination of experience and education resulting in attainment of equivalent knowledge and abilities * Five years progressively responsible experience in an administrative support role including administration of an education program * Excellent computer skills including MS Word, PowerPoint and E-mail programs * Excellent communication skills and professional presence with a customer service orientation. Ability to interact effectively with patients, physicians, government and community leaders, and the general public. Ability to recognize and handle priority incoming calls. Pleasant telephone demeanor * A team oriented individual with the ability to deal effectively with department staff in the resolution of problems and the completion of task. Ability to process and integrate complex information and appropriately exercise independent judgment * Ability to organize and deal with workload that involves tight deadlines, juggling multiple tasks and projects simultaneously as well as confidentially with minimal or no supervision. Ability to organize large amounts of varied material, research policies and procedures, perform simple bookkeeping tasks, and transcribe dictated materials.
