Performs phlebotomy procedures, schedules tests and conducts test procedures. Cleans laboratory equipment as necessary and assists in clerical duties of the department, such as answering phones and ordering supplies. Performs duties in an independent manner with little or no direct supervision.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Verbal communication skills required to explain procedures to patients

  • Knowledge of human development process and ability to work effectively with patients of all ages required

  • Writing skills required to maintain various records

  • Ability to order tests and/or test results on a computer terminal required

  • Must have physical ability to walk long distances for long periods of time, lean across the bedside to draw blood, or to push a cart

  • Must be able to carry a phlebotomy tray and lift and carry a filled gallon bottle

  • Must be able to work weekend, holidays, and rotate various shifts, if needed

  • Certification in phlebotomy and course in medical terminology preferred

Logs in specimens, processes specimens for reference labs, charts, files, answers telephone, and picks up and delivers specimens. Performs phlebotomy on outpatients (first shift only). Works under close supervision; receives direction regarding tasks to be completed and priorities. Required Skills * High school diploma or equivalent * Verbal communication skills to answer telephone, greet patients and visitors, and respond to requests for information * Must have knowledge of the human development process and ability to work effectively with patients of all ages * Written communication skills to take messages * Computer aptitude to use a keyboard and function in a Windows environment * Good organizational skills * Must have the ability to walk long distances while pushing a cart * Must have the ability to file alphabetically or numerically Truman Medical Centers Kansas City MO
