Patient Care Technician - ICU

PRN Shift Varies

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs designated/delegated tasks in the provision of care for patients under the direction and supervision of a nurse. Provides aspects of care within a specified timeline and completes routine non-patient department tasks as assigned.

• Turns and positions patients every 2 hours as indicated, using proper body mechanics.

• Assists patients with personal hygiene, including as showering, bathing, shaving, shampooing, perianal-care, catheter care and oral care.

• Takes and records vital signs accurately within established time frame.

• Consistently performs hourly rounds to ensure patient safety and promote customer satisfaction.

• Collects specimens according to policy. Will complete phlebotomy training during orientation. Will complete training to include collection of blood specimens, throat swabs, nasal swabs, stool

specimens, and obtaining clean catch urine specimens.

• Collects blood glucose according to policy. Will complete POC testing during orientation.

• Will complete ECG training with dysrhythmia recognition during orientation. Must recognize life-threatening dysrhythmias and notify primary care giver of abnormal readings.

• Performs cross-training as EKG Tech. Performs EKGs as ordered and immediately informs primary care giver of results.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

• Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred upon hire and required within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Recent nursing assistant training with six months or more experience.

• Prior Phlebotomy training or experience preferred.
