As the leader of U.S. Vaccines Private Sector Contracting Strategy, the Director is responsible for managing a team of 4-5 Customer Managers / Associate Directors, and is responsible for leading US Vaccines Private Sector contracting strategies across multiple customer segments, including physician clinic, medical groups, IDS and retail pharmacy.
In addition to traditional vaccine portfolio contract strategy, the Director will also be responsible for the continued evolution of quality-based contracts for US Vaccines (eg. Health in Practice Program).
Specifically, the Director will be responsible for providing oversight, leadership and management that will include but not be limited to the following:
Direct management of a team of 4-5 Customer Managers / Associate Directors
Collaborate with US Vaccine Brand and Portfolio Marketing teams as well as the Integrated Account Management (IAM) organization to insure contracting strategies meet the needs of key customer segments, vaccine brands and internal commercial operations
Play a critical role in development of strategies to expand access through value demonstration and affordability, including development quality-based contracts
Develop contracting strategies and commercial initiatives that support both inline and launch brands, and address competitive market events
Collaborate with and help to prioritize relevant work with Commercial Legal, Finance, Global Market Access (GMAx) and Customer Contract Management (CCM) teams
Oversight of the Promotional Review Team (PRT) review process and working with external advertising and market research agencies
Education Minimum Requirement:
Bachelor's degree Required;
MBA or other advanced degree preferred
Minimum of (8) years combined experience in brand marketing, customer marketing, pricing, contracting and/or account management
Deep understanding of multiple pharmaceutical payment models, including buy-and-bill, and implications of healthcare reform for various payment models
Demonstrated strategy development, problem solving, critical thinking, innovation and analytics and planning skills
Excellent communication skills (written & verbal)
Proficient at leading across diverse departments and roles, and effectively engaging senior leadership
Deep understanding the of the US commercial landscape, healthcare trends and policy issues, as well as their potential impact upon Merck business opportunities
Demonstrated experience with Merck Marketing, Promotion Management, Account Management and/or Customer Marketing (contracting and customer segment strategy development)
Demonstrated strength with Merck Leadership Principles, including collaboration
Multiple Director-level rotations in Brand Marketing, Customer Marketing, Market Research, Marketing Communications and/or Account Management, resulting in increasing level of responsibility and breadth of experience.
Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive analyses and monitor performance of targeted market segments, including assessment of market trends, customer needs and competitor positioning.
Experience in leading innovative projects across multiple functional areas.
