To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Stewardship, and Customer Experience by: (1) maintaining knowledge of privacy issues and staying current on trends and developments in the privacy field; (2) providing recommendations, advice, guidance to enhance organization privacy compliance and mitigate risk; (3) coordinating activities for an effective Privacy Program; and (4) develop and conducting education programs to respond to associate, management, first tier and downstream entities, Demonstrates leadership in the integration and application of knowledge of health care processes, health and business records, information technology, regulations and risk management for the Privacy Team and the IDN.


  • Creates an engaging work climate by understanding associate feedback through effective listening, communication, and implementing actions to create a more positive workplace; inspires and motivates individuals and teams to achieve outstanding performance.

  • Leads team to attain department goals, continuously monitoring to ensure successful completion of goals.

  • Recruits, hires, trains and communicates clear job expectations for associates.

  • Provides regular feedback to direct reports on performance through coaching and mentoring, one-on-one and team discussions, goal setting, performance reviews, development planning and constructive feedback.

  • Engages with Human Resources and follows the disciplinary process with direct reports as needed.

  • Rewards and recognizes associates, leveraging various tools and programs.

  • Oversees the professional development of the Privacy Team through educational opportunities.

  • Keeps the Privacy Team abreast of current departmental and organizational priorities and supports ongoing Health First initiatives.

  • Communicates and engages proactively with staff, vendors, and other leaders; exhibits actions and behaviors that engender respect and trust from others.


  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration or in related field required; or, comparable combination of education and work experience within 6 months of employment may be considered.

  • Minimum 5 years management experience preferred.

  • Currently has, or completes within one year, advanced certification in information privacy and/or security, healthcare.

  • Experienced trainer with curriculum development experience.

  • Excellent critical thinking and decision-making skills.

  • Excellent skills performing comprehensive legal and regulatory research and analysis.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate clearly and professionally with medical staff, Health First Health Plans, HIM associates, and other internal and external customers.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Advanced knowledge of Joint Commission standards, state and federal regulations related to privacy

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

Represents and supports leadership vision and priorities in a positive manner. Primary Accountabilities * Ensures the delivery of quality patient care for the shift and participates as a member of the unit leadership team in focusing on care delivery for the unit. * Collaborates with physicians and other departments determining patients' needs for nursing care and in treatment planning, resolves and/or facilitating resolution of patient related problems. * Ensures a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors. Communicates significant information to other persons responsible for, or involved in, the care of the patient, and coordinates the patient and family/significant other education process based on assessed need. * Collaborates with the Manager to ensure unit compliance with guidelines of accrediting and regulatory agencies, unit standards of care and practice, and organization policies and procedures. * Contributes to patient satisfaction as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores. * Maintains unit staffing per established guidelines. * Demonstrates fiscal responsibility toward the positive financial performance of the department. Education: * Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing * BSN required as of October 1, 2016 or actively enrolled in a BSN program with completion by the end of 2020. Licensure: * Current Florida RN licensure or endorsement Certification: * Must hold current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain. * National certification in relevant specialty preferred.
