The eClinicalWorks Privacy Specialist has responsibility for managing day-to-day privacy matters at eClinicalWorks.
Duties and responsibilities:
The Privacy Specialist's general duties and responsibilities encompass implementing eClinicalWorks systems, processes and policies designed to ensure compliance with all applicable privacy laws and regulations, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and its state law counterparts and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. The Privacy Specialist is responsible for development and implementation of policies and procedures for the privacy of protected health information and development and coordination of annual training on privacy policies and procedures. The Privacy Specialist also establishes processes to identify, investigate and mitigate the effects of actual or potential inappropriate uses or disclosure of protected health information.
Among the specific responsibilities and activities of the Privacy Manager are the following:
Performs risk assessments and conducts related ongoing compliance and privacy monitoring activities in coordination with other compliance and operational assessment functions.
Initiates, facilitates and promotes activities to foster information security and privacy awareness within eClinicalWorks.
Reviews all system-related information security plans throughout eClinicalWorks' network to ensure alignment between security and privacy practices.
Implements and maintains the requirements and obligations of eClinicalWorks under its Corporate Integrity Agreement as assigned by the Compliance Officer and/or the Director of Compliance and the Privacy Officer.
Advises eClinicalWorks leadership on issues concerning privacy matters including recommending controls designed to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Independently investigates or supervises the investigation of privacy incidents involving eClinicalWorks or its personnel.
Oversees the implementation of privacy training programs to ensure that all directors, employees, contractors and providers within eClinicalWorks are knowledgeable of eClinicalWorks' privacy requirements, HIPAA, HITECH and other privacy laws and regulations.
Develops, updates and ensures distribution of privacy policies and procedures.
Identifies risk areas and assists in developing auditing, monitoring and oversight processes related to identified risks.
Oversees the implementation of corrective actions and monitoring in response to identified issues and audits.
Works collaboratively with eClinicalWorks personnel to resolve all privacy issues identified.
Ensures proper investigations are conducted when required and all appropriate notifications are timely made as required by law.
Periodically reports on privacy matters to the eClinicalWorks Compliance Committee.
Report to eClinicalWorks management on privacy matters on a routine basis.
A Bachelor's degree required is required.
Required Background Experience (Professional Qualification):
The successful candidate will be recognized for demonstrated knowledge in HIPAA, HITECH and other privacy laws and regulations.
Clear, concise and persuasive writing and presentation skills.
Strong organizational skills and an orientation to deadlines and detail.
Ability to respond well under pressure.
Skills in use of information systems, databases, Excel and Microsoft Word.
Well-developed communications and consensus building skills.
Strong presentation skills.
