Job Description

At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. From the seabed to outer space, you can contribute to work that matters with a company where diversity, equity and inclusion are shared values. We're committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that's welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.

We are Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T): Boeing's global research and development team creating and implementing innovative technologies that make the impossible possible and enabling the future of aerospace. We are engineers and technicians, skilled scientists, and bold innovators; Join us and put your passion, determination, and skill to work building the future! #TheFutureIsBuiltHere #ChangeTheWorld

We are seeking a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Design Engineer to join our team in Huntington Beach, California with experience in the development of mission systems for space and airborne platforms to support and lead development of next generation electronics for optical sensing systems from conceptual design through operation prototypes on multiple programs.

The person selected for this role will be responsible for creating detailed PCB designs and release of complete PCB technical data/documentation packages for production. (Printed Circuit Board: PCB is considered synonymous with the term Printed Wiring Board: PWB).

We are looking for a broad range of experience including Lead or Senior PCB Design Engineers.

This position is part of the rapidly growing Electro-Optical (EO) / Infra-Red (IR) Mission Systems team within BR&T. The EO/IR Mission Systems (EMS) team has more than quadrupled in size over the past 18 months due to new contract wins and continues to see increased demand from Boeing's customers. We're designing, building, and testing cutting edge sensor systems for airborne and space platforms. Our focus is always on the mission - connecting people through safer air travel and protection of the warfighter from its adversaries. This isn't your typical Boeing team - we are focused on the entire lifecycle of design: from modeling and simulation of new ideas, through prototype demonstrations, and eventually transitioning to production systems.

Our team provides complete engineering solutions to Boeing and its customers, including systems engineering, optics design, mechanical design, algorithms, software development, firmware development, electronics, and advanced system modeling and simulations. If you're interested in working in a fast-paced environment while taking a design from clean sheet of paper through flight demonstration, ideally with some technology that's never been flown before, then this is the group for you!

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop electronics design and perform analysis at the Circuit Card and Unit level

  • Work from engineering concept to final drawings to create electrical drawings for PCBs/PWBs - design, parts placement, routing, dimensioning/tolerancing, and drawing generation

  • Perform schematics capture, Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design and layout with Mentor Graphics or other PCB design software

  • Establish and document complete PCB/PWB specifications. (Need to have good understanding of PCB/PWB fabrication processes and industry standards such as those from IPC)

  • Provide technical expertise in selection of PCB/PWB materials and technologies

  • Provide technical oversite of PCB/PWB supplier selection, verification, and continuous improvement efforts

  • Execute PCB design and PCB assembly verification, debug, troubleshooting and repair

  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM) utilization at PCB design and layout

  • Service and support the entire life cycle from requirements derivation through design/development and test up to and beyond manufacture and delivery of hardware

  • Analyze and translate requirements into box architecture and hardware designs

  • Test and validate hardware to ensure designs meet operational and functional requirements

  • Develop custom electronic design of functional test hardware

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

  • Experience in electrical computer aided design (CAD) tools for schematic capture and layout such as Expedition/Mentor Graphics

  • High Density Interconnect PCB/PWB design experience

  • Experience in selection of advanced PCB/PWB materials and design rules

  • Understanding of PCB/PWB manufacturing processes, and experience with PCB/PWB Design-for-Manufacturability (DFM) and Design-for-Assembly (DFA) analysis tools and/or processes, specifically for spaceborne applications

  • Experience with mechanical CAD tools to facilitate the import/export of mechanical information
