Summary
Under direct supervision, is responsible for receiving, sorting, distributing and delivering incoming, outgoing and interoffice mail or printing products; delivers and collects mail from U.S. Post Office; maintains logs of all accountable mail; provides information to postal customers. May perform basic duties associated with printing functions and finishing products; and performs related duties as required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Receives, sorts and processes incoming, outgoing, interoffice mail, to include operating postage meter and applying correct postage as required
Delivers, collects interoffice mail and printing products, utilizing delivery pushcart and county vehicle
Records and processes accountable mail information, maintains log, track and resolve mail issues with USPS and other agencies
Responds to customer inquiries in person or by telephone
Provides information and advice to customers on available postal services
Performs quality control checks on inbound / outbound mail
Coordinate automated and manual processes for finishing and mailing client materials
Prepares delivery forms manually or electronically
Performs basic finishing work for mailing documents or printing products that require folding and inserting
Performs basic task associated with printing functions or activities (printing, sorting, inserting, metering, delivery, etc.)
Performs electronic mail distribution
Operates, cleans and maintains all mail equipment
Minimum Qualifications
High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate
Knowledge of basic office procedures
Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations
Ability to operate basic office equipment, postal and printing machines; ability to read, understand and follow instructions; ability to drive delivery vehicle; ability to maintain records and prepare routine reports; ability to communicate with a diverse group of individuals utilizing tact and diplomacy; ability to effectively respond to questions and complaints; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, outside organizations and the public
Must have a valid Texas driver's license and maintain a good driving record
Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
Working conditions are primarily indoors
Occasional exposure to jail environment with occasional exposure to hostile people
Constant exposure to noise from postal machines and dust
Frequently moves items weighing up to 15 pounds
Occasionally moves items weighing up to 70 pounds
Occasionally moves about the office
Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
Positions self to perform essential functions
Must be able to remain in a stationary position
