Northrop Grumman Space Systems - Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal / Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Huntsville, AL.
What you will get to do:
Mechanical design of parts, assemblies, subsystems, and complete systems, including 3D CAD modeling, drafting/review/revision/release of engineering drawings, selection of components and materials
Participate and/or lead small, cross-functional teams performing various design and production-support tasks in an Agile Hardware environment
Collaborating with other functional areas such as Production, Procurement, Systems Engineering, Quality, and Logistics on aspects of product design, integration, and support
Create, release, and maintain bill-of-materials, analysis reports, etc.
Performing mechanical engineering analyses, such as weight/center of mass, structural, transportability, or thermal, and authoring reports documenting them
Perform with little to no oversight needed to complete assignments
Handle complex technical issues and resolve them in new and innovative ways
Assisting in the preparation and submittal of contract deliverable reports and data packages
Mentoring and informally training junior engineers and engineering interns
Basic Qualifications:
This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Mechanical Engineer or Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer.
BQs for a Principal Mechanical Engineer: BS degree and 5+ years of experience in Mechanical design; Masters' Degree and 3 years of experience or PhD with 0 years of experience.
BQs for a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer: BS degree and 9+ years of experience in Mechanical design; Masters' Degree and 7 years of experience or PhD with 4 yrs of experience.
Possess experience drafting and reviewing mechanical drawings to ASME standards
Experience working as part of a collaborative design team
Desire and ability to lead small technical teams solving challenging, multi-disciplinary design problems
3D CAD modeling/2D drawing drafting experience, specifically with SolidWorks or similar CAD package
Ability to obtain Secret clearance; Interim Secret clearance required to start.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using any industry-standard Product Lifecycle Management system such as Team Center (preferred), SmarTeam, Windchill, Workgroup PDM, etc.
Experience with electronics/payload/C2 integration design for commercial or military systems
Experience in a production/manufacturing environment
Familiarity with industry standard MRP systems such as SAP
Experience working in Agile for Hardware project development
Experience leading technical teams in a collaborative environment
Expertise in one or more of the following areas: environmental test & evaluation, shock & vibration analysis, components engineering, CAD/PLM tools management & administration
Active security clearance
This position offers the option of a 9/80 work schedule on location at our Huntsville, Alabama facility. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Salary Range: $83,800.00 - $125,800.00Salary Range 2: $103,900.00 - $155,900.00
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
