Northrop Grumman's Mission Systems is seeking a Production Automation Engineer to sustain industrial solutions for a wide range of manufacturing applications. Areas of focus include microelectronics, antenna assembly, mechanical assembly and fabrication, test and surface mount technology.

Under general supervision of the Automation Manager and Factory Automation leads, the Production Automation Lead:

  • Modifies and tests PLC software, Robot Programs, Conveyor systems, and control hardware and systems

  • Works as a member of a project team and coordinates work with others.

  • Installs, troubleshoots, and maintains products/equipment

  • Trains employees, identifies, analyzes, and repairs product failures, orders and replaces parts as needed

  • Determines and recommends which products or services best fit the customers' needs

  • Contributes to new system concepts and customer contact

  • Performs site installations and start-ups, achieves an on-time completion of project within project budget

The Automation Engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the tasks outlined below:

  • Performs in-house testing on control components and systems

  • Understanding of Preventative Maintenance as it relates to production systems

  • Create, modify, and troubleshoot programming for Fanuc, ABB, & UR Robots/Cobots

  • Assists with panel wiring and mechanical assembly to meet project schedules

  • Supports customer training efforts

  • Meets project schedules

  • Provides manufacturing manager and lead project engineer with timely status reports of projects

  • Maintains a strong company presence and positive working relationship with customers, subcontractors, vendors and co-workers to sustain automated systems

  • Independently constructs or designs equipment with use of PLC, BUS-Systems, Network Technology, Mechanical Components, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems and Cooling/Lubrication Systems

  • Identifies and analyzes errors and malfunctions as they relate to: Intermittent/inconsistent electrical and mechanical failures on production equipment; PLC's, 24v control circuits, 480v 3phase systems, 4-20ma circuits, VFD's, PC controllers, and fieldbus technology/control technology

  • Travels as required (which will be 10% or more) to complete project and service tasks

This job may be filled as a Principal or a Senior Principal based on the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal:

  • Bachelors of Science degree or higher in Engineering or related STEM area plus 5 years of relevant professional experience (3 years with an MS degree)

  • Experience troubleshooting/repairing Robotics and Controls, using a wide variety of Discrete I/O, Analog I/O, and communications to I/O data that can be transmitted or received to/from other controllers and devices via industrial communication protocols

  • Must have fluency in MS Office software applications

  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite.)

Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal:

  • Bachelors of Science degree or higher in Engineering or related STEM area plus 9 years of relevant professional experience (7 years with an MS degree)

  • Experience troubleshooting/repairing Robotics and Controls, using a wide variety of Discrete I/O, Analog I/O, and communications to I/O data that can be transmitted or received to/from other controllers and devices via industrial communication protocols

  • Must have fluency in MS Office software applications

  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Electrical/Mechanical controls enclosure knowledge

  • Experience programming Fanuc Robots

  • Experience sending PLC data to servers (for example Open Platform Communications (OPC), OPC Unified Architecture (OPC-UA) and Structured Query Language (SQL) servers)

  • Automotive Manufacturing experience

  • Ignition SCADA experience

  • Electronic component manufacturing

  • Understanding of machine vision and deep learning applications

MANUMS

Salary Range: $88,000.00 - $132,000.00Salary Range 2: $109,100.00 - $163,700.00

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. Northrop Grumman's Manufacturing Operations Engineering organization is seeking a Manufacturing Process/Project Engineer for the Advanced Ceramics Facility (ACF) manufacturing cell. ACF utilizes flexibility and creativity in order to develop, manufacture and deliver leading-edge discriminating products, while incorporating the latest materials, technology and processing to meet or exceed customer expectations. The Manufacturing Process/Project Engineer will provide manufacturing technical support and direction to fabricate ceramic substrates for next generation RF hardware. This position will be responsible for supporting multiple processes in ACF. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the tasks outlined below: Factory Support * Solving of manufacturing problems related to materials, designs, equipment, people in a timely manner to support production * Developing new and maintaining existing manufacturing processes with a focus on affordability and quality * Developing and optimizing process parameters * Developing and revising process documentation and work instruction * Creating, validating and maintaining automatic equipment programs * Assisting with the training of new personnel and participating in the design of operator training materials * Supporting factory maintenance personnel with the troubleshooting and repair of process equipment * Leading/facilitating Root Cause & Corrective Action investigations and driving to closure Project Engineering * Creating and managing project plans (tasks, resources, schedules) for pre-production activities * Recommending and implementing mitigations and continuous improvement efforts in support of project plans * Providing ROI justification for process improvement * Supporting capital equipment projects through procurement, installation and release for production use * Conducting pre-production Manufacturing Readiness Reviews * Monitoring key process indicators, including yields, cost and process capability * Recommending and implementing process changes that improve safety, quality, cost and schedule based on the above metrics The chosen candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; be able to multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic, and high visibility environment; and work well as part of a team.
