About the Role

RPMGlobal is currently seeking an experienced Principal Underground Mining Engineer to join our Advisory Metals Division. The role is primarily responsible for the provision of consulting services to our clients and requires a minimum of 15 years underground mining engineering experience, including experience in a variety of metals commodities.

It is essential the candidate has on-site experience at an operating mine and study management experience whilst prior exposure to a consulting environment would be advantageous.

This role will allow the successful candidate to rapidly gain experience across numerous commodities and study types whilst working with a team of leading specialists in all aspects of the mining value chain. An interest in working on projects globally is key to this role along with a willingness to collaborate with Clients and colleagues from varied cultural backgrounds.

This is a permanent, full-time role that can be based out of RPMs Denver or Toronto office. Regular domestic and international travel is a requirement of this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the global team on consulting projects such as feasibility studies and due diligences.

  • Ensure client requirements are adequately defined and recorded.

  • Verify the scope of work and deliver outcome on time.

  • Produce relevant mine planning outputs, including but not limited to:

  • Pit/Stope optimisations (using software such as Whittle Pit Optimiser, NPV Scheduler).

  • Practical detailed underground mine designs.

  • Primary underground ventilation design.

  • Strategic options analysis.

  • Development of practical and achievable mining schedules.

  • Equipment selection and fleet estimation.

  • First principle mining cost modelling.

  • Technical report writing.

  • Presenting study outcomes to clients.

About You

  • Tertiary Qualification in Mining Engineering.

  • 10 + years' experience in the mining industry composed of onsite and consulting roles.

  • High performance, technically strong, self-motivated individual.

  • Extensive periods at multiple mine sites in technical and production roles.

  • Previous experience in planning and operation of underground mining engineering functions on-site.

  • Computer literacy with mainstream mine design software such as Surpac, Maptek, Whittle, Deswik, MS Office and RPM's other proprietary software.

  • Have experience contributing to a broad range of project documentation i.e. reports, feasibility studies, etc.

  • Knowledgeable of business principles and financial modelling.

  • The ability to communicate complex solutions to a variety of customer stakeholders, from technical to non-technical.

  • Strong command of the English language in both verbal and written form.

  • Bilingual would be highly regarded (Spanish, French).

  • Willingness to learn.

  • Must be legally entitled to work in the USA or Canada and travel overseas.

  • Post-graduate qualifications in business studies or similar is advantageous.

Your Opportunity The role of the senior civil engineer is to work independently on smaller projects, and as a team member of a larger project . The engineer should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project. As a senior civil engineer you will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, and field work. The projects that a senior civil engineer may be assigned to, may have complex features that will require the application of mature knowledge. Leads the analysis of proposed projects to ensure structural reliability, resource efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Your Key Responsibilities * Responsible for large projects of high complexity. * Evaluates, selects, specifies, and engineers all civil engineered systems or products for a project. * Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats. * Utilizes technologies in development of three dimensional models of civil systems and provides markups for junior engineers/designers. * Prepares and revises documentation in various civil phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details. * Leads project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors. * Leads in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating. * Develops and manages the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule. * Leads the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents. * Participates in constructability review. * Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers. * Assists in the development of new standards and specifications for the civil group. * Develops project scope, budgets, and design approach for all size projects. * Assists with the development of proposal for smaller, less complex projects. * Oversees and manages multiple projects. Your Capabilities and Credentials * Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of National Civil Code and applicable energy codes. * Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications. * Strong knowledge of civil systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards. * Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production. * Checks the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule. * Participates and collaborates in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought. * Advanced understanding of civil engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others. * Strong presentation and interview skills. * Effective communicator and able to work on and lead teams. * Efficient project management of multiple concurrent projects. * Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, and AutoCAD. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering. Licensed Professional Engineer. Minimum of 7-8 years of experience. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
