  • Xinetics (AOA Xinetics), a wholly-owned Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems (NGSP) Business Venture, is currently seeking a Principal Thermal Process Engineer who will focus on thermal processes associated with Ceramic Operations in Devens MA. AOA Xinetics (AOX) is a leader in developing 'smart' electro-optical and opto-mechanical products.

    Across its three Business Areas: Xinetics, Image Metrology and Special Programs, AOX designs, manufactures and services optical & photonic solutions world-wide for a wide range of customers that include U.S. Government and Defense, Industrial, Astronomy, Directed Energy and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (i.e.

    ISR) and Logistics. AOX excels in a range of applications from adaptive optical systems, deformable mirrors, wavefront sensors, and sub-nanometer precision actuators to photonic systems that acquire and process data in real time for a variety of high-availability applications. AOX market offerings include lightweight passive and active CERAFORMTM and CERAPRINTTM silicon carbide (SiC) optics and precision structures as well as large and small precision opto-mechanical systems supporting electronics and sophisticated controls software.

    Overview Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Principal Thermal Process Engineer will be a critical member of an expanding, highly technical Manufacturing Engineering Team. You will be responsible for supporting daily ceramic processing operations, troubleshooting and problem-solving manufacturing process issues through solid engineering understanding and practices, driving continuous improvement and cost reductions. This position plays a key role in providing the manufacturing team with the technical knowledge, understanding and importance of all thermal processes. The ideal candidate will have experience working with thermal models to understand and define process requirements/specifications, interface with hardware and hardware providers, and have a mechanical background that enables manufacturing ready solutions.

Responsibilities:

Define and develop thermal process requirements/specifications and process work instructions

These processes include high temperature, vacuum and liquid nitrogen to cryogenic applications

Supporting and conducting technical investigations

Serves as a subject matter expert concerning thermal processing equipment capital investments Identify and recommend solutions on a variety of complex manufacturing issues

Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives within manufacturing as well as other areas of the company

Draw upon your experience and knowledge of PLC Programing and furnace control/monitoring to improve processes and identify opportunities to enhance product quality and increasing efficiency

Work in partnership with Design and other Manufacturing Engineer disciplines with process refinements, enhancements and develop process capabilities Incorporate lean manufacturing principles and tools

Preparing proposals and technical reports, and presenting finding to customers Resolve thermal and other related problems where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors such as cost, quality, reliability, manufacturability, impact to schedule and process improvement Use experience in working with thermal models to predict, understand and implement manufacturing processes from an engineering perspective

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or STEM related discipline5 years of demonstrated thermal process engineering work experience

Ability to create manufacturing instructions in the production of precision structures, optics and optical assemblies

Ability to apply manufacturing skills in the production, inspection and test of optics and optical product

Proficiency with technical information (e.g., blueprints, process specifications and instructions)Ability to track critical thermal process data/performance and implement changes for enhancing productivity and product yield

Strong critical thinking and logical reasoning skills and the ability to apply them to solve issues and predict potential technical risks

Proven root-cause and Ishikawa analysis skill sets

Conducts business with impeccable ethics; fosters ethical behavior at all times. Maintains a positive and professional working environment

Demonstrated experience with PLC Programming, Ladder Logic and basic controller practices

Familiarity with process safety and risk assessment of high temperature, vacuum and low temperature processes

Practical application of AS9100, ISO 9001-2008 or other specialized quality systems Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Proficient in MS Office skills U.S. Citizenship is a requirement for employment

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or STEM related field10 years of demonstrated thermal process engineering work experience

Experience working in Defense/DoD, Aerospace, Semiconductor Fab and/or COTs product development and manufacturing

Experience working with silicon carbide and/or ferroelectric materials and processes Physical Demands: Ability to work in a manufacturing environment consisting of resistance/induction heating equipment as well as vacuum equipment

Ability to be medically cleared to wear full face respiratory equipment Will require work schedule flexibility (off shift access) to support critical thermal process cycles

Overview Reporting to the Xinetics Design Engineering Manager, the Senior Principal Chief Engineer will lead a multi-disciplined engineering team and is the technical authority for all engineering program activities. You will plan, manage and balance engineering technical, cost and schedule performance of programs, coordinate proposal efforts, requirements development, hardware/software design, risk management, integration, verification, and validation activities, and ensure that programs are adhering to sound engineering principles and processes in the development, production, test and sustainment of products for our customers in compliance with company policies and procedures. This role collaborates with program management, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, suppliers and other partners, and will serve as the primary customer technical point of contact ensuring that customer requirements and deliverables are met.
