Duties include but are not limited to: managing and maintaining secure, minimally-interrupted operations of Linux/Unix servers and workstations; supporting bare-metal and virtual machines; coordinating actions with peer system administrators, network administrators, security teams, software teams and hardware engineers; devising, recommending and implementing performance-enhancement, reliability-enhancement and automation solutions; installing, hardening and patching Linux/Unix operating systems; troubleshooting end-user issues; developing and documenting technical

procedures. Primary system administration duties reside in classified environments within an Agile Scrum Framework.


  • Monitor system processes, correct system performance issues, and maintain backup schedules

  • Optimize software and system configurations, maintain software licenses, and assist with software updates and system


  • Able to partition disks, create logical volumes, create file systems and mount file systems in Linux/Unix environments

  • Read, modify and create shell script and scripts in various other languages

  • Learn new technologies on own and work effectively independently, while still coordinating actions as required

  • Occasional travel to customer sites in support of troubleshooting, testing, and deployment activities

Basic Qualifications:

BQs for a Principal Systems Administrator are 6 years of applicable experience with a Bachelor's degree; 4 years of experience with a Master's or 4 additional years of experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Active Secret security clearance required.

  • Expertise in system administration of UNIX, Linux, and similar open source operating systems including building out

system, loading operating systems, applying patches, and developing system admin tools is required.

  • The candidate should be able to clearly and succinctly communicate complex concepts, issues, and status.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience remediating and hardening Redhat system security vulnerabilities in accordance with Risk Management

Framework (RMF) and DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STiG)

  • Experience with NAS storage device (preferably NetApp) administration

  • Redhat System Administration certification(s)

  • Knowledge of PKI Certificate based authentication / Single Sign-On

  • Familiarity with managing license servers such as MATLAB

  • Knowledge of high performance computing environments for parallel applications.

  • Understand Agile Scrum framework and concepts

JOB DESCRIPTION Primary Responsibilities: Perform Linux System Administration duties as required to maintain smooth operation of multi-user computer systems consisting of physical and virtual machines running on VMware and Oracle VM Server. Additional duties are: * Continually monitors and tunes multiple systems to achieve optimum performance levels. Experience with advanced Linux configuration including LDAP authentication, file system mounting, updating and managing packages, and managing / installing services. * Participating in the installation, integration, acceptance testing, and on-going maintenance of systems and software environment. * Assisting with forecast resource limitations and provide recommendations for increasing the efficiency of our resources through proper scheduling and load balancing techniques. Required Skills and Abilities * Solid knowledge of Linux and general UNIX operating systems concepts as well as extensive systems administration experience. * Experience in multi-factor authentication platforms and solutions, and Identity Management such as Oracle Fusion Middleware, LDAP, and Kerberos. * Security implementations using multi-factor authentication, PKI, or Kerberos and Unix OS hardening to DOD SCAP / STIG standards. * Ability to create and maintain Information Assurance (IA) compliance documentation of the Information System. * Ability to develop and maintain documentation on system administration procedures for routine and complex tasks. * CompTIA Security+ certification required. * Secret clearance desired, ability to hold a secret clearance required.
