The Systems Engineering Integration and Test team at Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as a Technical Editor and Writer based out of San Diego, CA.
What You'll get to Do:
Writes, rewrites, updates and/or edits technical documents such as
Software and system engineering lifecycle documents
Technical procedure manuals
Quick reference guides
Production/manufacturing specifications and procedures
Technical operational manuals (SDM-027, etc.)
Configuration management work instructions
Sustainment documentation (repairs, module exchange, etc.)
Emphasis and requirement for all writing is to take input from complex technical communication and subject matter experts and author technical documentation that is clear, concise and written to appropriate reading level for the intended audience.
Acquires subject knowledge by: (1) interviewing product developers, engineers, logisticians, lab technicians, test personnel, production personnel, and field technicians, (2) observing performance of system operations and maintenance, and (3) researching technical specifications, related program documents, engineering drawings, 3-D animations/job aids, and operations/maintenance videos.
This position may be filled at a higher grade based on the requirements below.
This position may be filled as a Principal or Sr. Principal Technical Editor and Writer.
Basic Qualifications for Principal Tech Editor and Writer:
6 Years of relevant experience with Bachelors in relevant field; 4 Years with Masters; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Tech Editor and Writer:
10 Years of relevant experience with Bachelors in relevant field; 8 Years with Masters; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Tech Editor and Writer:
Must have excellent technical writing skills with a focus on accuracy and consistency of both technical information and documentation layout.
Must be a highly motivated, self-starter who is deadline-driven and able to manage his/her time well to generate high quality documentation on schedule
Writer will be responsible for all phases of document generation (i.e.,researching, writing, incorporating updates, and delivery via CM).
Must have a focus on the end-user needs to safely performing his/her job, while protecting the equipment from potential damage and ensuring a successful mission.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Snag-It/screen captures.
Must be familiar with SharePoint for document upload/retrieval.
Must have an Active/Current Secret Clearance
Must be able to research available resources in a timely manner to find needed information.
Understanding of Configuration Management processes
Experience with creating software user manuals and test cases
Experience with training development.
Experience with training development tools such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, and Camtasia
Experience with media creation, editing and layout in Adobe Photoshop, In-Design, Illustrator, Premiere, and similar graphic tools
Experience with ClearQuest, Arbortext, FrameMaker, Visio, AutoCAD, Solidworks,
3-D Modeling, and/or S1000D is a plus.
Experience with MIL STD documentation is a plus
