Providence is calling a Principal Software Developer PSJH to Providence Health & Services in Portland, OR.

We are seeking a Principal Software Developer PSJH to design and build modern data-centric software applications to support clinical and operational processes across all parts of the health system. These applications leverage cloud computing, big data, mobile, data science, and modern software development methodologies and frameworks. The Principal Software Developer will primarily focus on the development of software to best practice standards with a priority on collaboration with other team members during the software development life cycle. The Principal Software Developer will take point on development of best practices and standards across the engineering team and participate in research and development of new technologies. A Principal Software Developer must be able to and emphasize mentoring less experienced Software Developers and training the team, as needed, to develop a robust skillset among the entire team. This position will work closely with the Product Management team, the Scrum Master, QA, Software Developers, and Data Engineers.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Design, build and deliver applications that improve treatment or operations and generate value to PSJH.

  • Participate in Agile and continuous integration frameworks.

  • Deep full-stack knowledge of HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Angular,, C#, T-SQL, NodeJS, Java.

  • Experience in planning and delivering software platforms used across multiple products and organizational units.

  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, open source projects, and best practices in the field.

  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment, learn rapidly and master diverse web technologies and techniques.

  • Leads research topics and finds ways to improve products and product delivery.

  • Actively lead code reviews, support the overall code base, and support the establishment of standard processes and frameworks.

  • Mentor developers, as needed.

  • Excellent communication skills.

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business Management, Information Services or an equivalent combination of education, skills and relevant experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • 9 years professional software development experience.
  • 9 years one modern language experience such as C#.NET, or Java/Spring framework.
  • 5 years HTML/CSS, JavaScript, AngularJS, NodeJS, Object Oriented Programming (eg Java, Scala, C#), JQuery, SQL experience.
  • 7 years SQL, NoSQL, and Stored Procedures experience.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 2 years industry exposure/experience with Azure Web Services or other cloud infrastructure technologies
  • 1 year strong understanding OOP design patterns.
  • 1 year experience defining, scoping, building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers.
  • 1 year proficient level knowledge of Microservice architectures, distributed systems and n-tier architectures.
