The Senior Principal Research Statistician in Statistical Innovation is responsible for providing scientific, statistical and strategic leadership to influence key stakeholders and proposing, evaluating, developing and deploying advanced and novel statistical/analytical methodology and associated tools in Clinical Development to ensure statistical and operational excellence. This individual contributor proactively drives Development forward by designing innovative clinical trials and monitoring and introducing innovative statistical concepts and tools to enable continuous improvement of the products and projects. In this highly empowered and collaborative role, the Senior Principal Research Statistician partners with statistical, clinical, and regulatory experts to broadly impact the portfolio by creating new ways to advance medicines to patients.
Leads the evaluation, introduction, development and education of novel statistical approaches
Collaborates with key stakeholders to propose innovative design and analyses options and to evaluate benefit and risks to help team and management to make a more informed decision
Provides consultation and guidance on advanced statistical methods (e.g. Adaptive designs, Bayesian methods, multiplicity, subgroup identification/data mining, predictive modeling etc.).
Applies imagination. Creates, invents, and implements new or better approaches, alternatives, and breakthrough ideas that are valued by customers within the function. Develops and advances existing and breakthrough technology.
Advances statistics expertise within function. Demonstrates modeling and simulation capabilities with appropriate level of engagement on activities in support of drug development scenario planning and program optimization.
Shows proficiency in development, implementation, and rollout of statistical tools and techniques (e.g. using R, R-shiny, Python, Julia, etc.) to operationalize key innovative methodologies making diverse approaches available to study teams.
Maintains external reputation as discipline expert. Influences industry with presentations, serving on panel discussions at industry meetings, attending industry meetings, or authoring articles for peer-reviewed publications.
Level will be based on education and years of experience
PhD in statistics or related field with 6-8+ years of related work experience. MS in statistics or related field with 10-12+ years of related work experience. Preferred: Ph.D
Advanced knowledge of statistical modeling and methodology and good understanding of drug development process
Demonstrated experience in advanced statistical methods with strong scientific computing & simulation skills.
Experience in Bayesian and novel adaptive designs is preferred
Proven ability to provide statistical consultation with minimal supervision to advise discipline experts and leaders within and across function.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
