NGM Bio is a biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering and developing novel, life-changing medicines for people whose health and lives have been disrupted by disease. The company's biology-centric drug discovery approach aims to seamlessly integrate interrogation of complex disease-associated biology and protein engineering expertise to unlock proprietary insights that are leveraged to generate promising product candidates and enable their rapid advancement into proof-of-concept studies. As explorers on the frontier of life-changing science, NGM Bio aspires to operate one of the most productive research and development engines in the biopharmaceutical industry. All therapeutic candidates in the NGM Bio pipeline have been generated by its in-house discovery engine, always led by biology, and motivated by unmet patient need. In addition to a healthy balance sheet and cash runway, the company currently has four programs in active clinical development. Visit us at www.ngmbio.com for more information.

Our Biologics group is seeking a motivated and energetic antibody scientist to join our team.  As a member of a cross-disciplinary team of scientists, qualified candidates will be responsible for implementing cutting-edge immunological and molecular recovery techniques to aid in the rapid discovery of antibodies. Utilizing a broad range of molecular biology, genomics, and cell-based technologies to support reagent and therapeutic antibody programs, this role will report to the Sr. Director, Biologics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coach a high performing team within the Antibody group that is focused on discovery and engineering of antibodies, antibody fragments, and alternative protein scaffolds using molecular evolution technologies including phage, yeast, mammalian, and ribosomal display.

  • Generate broad panels of antibodies through innovative immunization and high throughput selection and cloning approaches

  • Expand the rational design and library-based capabilities for antibody/protein optimization including humanization, affinity, cross-reactivity, selectivity, activity, and developability

  • Establish workflows to probe and manipulate the host immune repertoire using deep sequencing, single B cells capture and analysis

  • Work closely within Biologics and with Biology to ensure successful progression of pipeline projects ranging from pre-clinical discovery to clinical proof-of-concept

  • Organize and execute complex antibody generation projects

  • Analyze, interpret and communicate scientific data

  • Apply bioinformatics tools in antibody repertoire sequence analysis

Qualifications

  • Education: Ph.D. or M.D. degree in relevant scientific discipline. Candidates will be considered for the following levels using this rubric (level commensurate with experience):

  • Principal Scientist: Requires completion of Ph.D. or M.D., relevant postdoctoral experience in an academic of industry laboratory setting, and a minimum of 6 years' experience and demonstration of sustained performance and accomplishment.

  • Senior Scientist: Requires completion of Ph.D. or M.D. and relevant postdoctoral experience in an academic or industry laboratory setting and minimum of 3 years' relevant professional experience with evidence of expanding scientific capabilities and professional development.

  • Hands-on experience in antibody discovery methods such as B-cell cloning, hybridoma, and display technologies

  • Proficient in methods for screening and characterization of protein and antibody variants as clinical leads.

  • Experience with single-cell microfluidic droplet / single cell Next-Gen Sequencing (NGS) technologies is highly desirable.

  • Working knowledge of cell sorting and technical proficiency in molecular biology

  • Concrete bioinformatics skills for antibody analysis

  • Expertise in antibody therapeutics development, especially bispecific and or ADC is a plus.

  • People and/or project management experience is highly desirable.

  • Interest and/or experience with structural modeling, machine learning approaches for antibody optimization, computational library design, or use of in silico prediction methods is a plus

  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively across various scientific disciplines
