The incumbent develops and performs the diverse purification/recovery operations required to optimize the production of vaccine candidates. These include, but not limit to: recovery and purification of the candidate antigen and analytical characterization.
Expertise in a broad scientific and engineering principles will be used to develop new techniques, to critically evaluate results and to develop the experimental approaches to solve problems. Careful documentation and presentation of work is required. Work is to be done in a compliant manner according to SOP guidelines.
1.Develop, optimize, and scale-up recovery/purification for the preparation of vaccine candidates up to pilot plant scale.
2.Independently execute techniques for the recovery/purification of vaccine candidates, and provide supervision on special projects.
3.Presents problems and proposed solutions in discussion with group members. Offers insights based on experience to group members to help solve problems.
4.Critically evaluate own and others results to determine if processes are optimal or if opportunities exist.
5.Lead or participate the technology transfer of developed process to the clinical manufacturing site, and provide the technical support as needed.
6.Present periodic status updates to the project leader or team. Prepare technical reports, as needed.
7.Fully document laboratory experiments in electronic notebooks in a timely and compliant manner.
8.Execute analyses to characterize products. Assist in developing new assays and adapt existing assays to new materials. Discuss analytical issues with team members to help advance objectives.
9.Continuously evaluate each process and technique to determine the robustness and scalability of the process. If an operation has shortcomings or can be improved, develop and demonstrate use improved process.
PhD degree in Biochemistry or Chemistry, or Biochemical or Chemical Engineering or related discipline, minimum 8 years related experience or a relevant MS degree with minimum of 15 years relevant experience.
Experience in recovery and purification processes and at least 5 years experience in the industrial process development environment.
Experience with process scale-up and protein, plasmid and/or polysaccharide.
Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
Good written and verbal communication capabilities.
