Job Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for directing, and managing technical projects in support of Global Drug Development, Precision Medicine objectives. The Principal Scientist will be responsible for the development and recommendation of immuno-oncology exploratory biomarkers and companion diagnostic assays for clinical trial(s). Candidate will be responsible for providing bioinformatics analyses to support the Immuno-Oncology Diagnostic Center of Excellence. Candidate will also support cross-functional biomarker and diagnostic groups, collaborate with teams in Exploratory Immunology, Translational Clinical Oncology and Oncology Translational Research.

Major Accountabilities

  • Direct technical project teams in compliance with appropriate SOPs, WIs, Novartis, and relevant regulatory guidelines. Includes planning and initiating new projects, providing scientific input, monitoring the progress of on-going projects, and evaluating the out-comes

  • Be responsible for team results and their communication and presentation

  • Critically evaluate team conclusions

  • Oversee the interpretation of data and preparation of reports generated by teams

  • Develop and recommend objectives for lab team

  • Interface with external organizations as a representative of Novartis

  • Provide broad and in-depth technical expertise to the function, act as consultant on tech-nical project solutions

  • Maintain current knowledge in specific areas of expertise and capable of obtaining knowledge regarding relevant fields outside area of expertise

  • Provide leadership in solving scientific/technical problems and initiate new project con-cepts

  • Conduct departmental meetings and represent department at internal meetings

  • Work collaboratively across interdisciplinary teams

  • Group and individually train and mentor junior team members

  • May act as backup for supervisor on a limited basis

Purpose & Scope of Position: Astellas Innovation and Incubation Research Laboratory is a newly launched development company located in a state-of-the-art facility in the heart of the Cambridge biomedical ecosystem. This innovative and energetic scientist will meet all responsibilities of a Senior Scientist as well as be responsible for high level of scientific research expertise and data analysis, high quality scientific research and final reports. May act as a project leader initiating and coordinating the scientific efforts of several groups. The successful candidate will have an understanding of the relevance between retro-element RNA and pathogenesis such as cancer, autoimmune and chronic inflammatory disease. Essential Job Responsibilities: * Lead project team that targets pathological RNA homeostasis disorders (aberrant stability by modification, splicing abnormality and endogenous retro virus activation) * Performs research and/or development in collaboration with others * Makes detailed observations analyzes data and interprets results * Exercises technical discretion in the design, execution and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project goals * Prepares technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses. Investigates, creates and develops new methods and technologies for project advancement * Maintains high level of professional expertise through familiarity with scientific literature and novel technologies * Uses professional concepts in accordance with company objectives to solve complex problems in creative and effective ways * Mentors junior scientists through project leadership in a matrix environment Quantitative Dimensions: This position interacts with all levels of management on a routine basis and influences strategy. Works on complex and diverse problems giving guidance and suggestions. Actions may have implications on operations, budget and/or credibility.
