We are the Cloud and Information Services Lab (CISL), an applied research group part of the Azure Data CTO office. CISL tackles interesting challenges in both open-source and proprietary technologies related to Big Data, cloud and storage systems among others. We build reliable, highly scalable and highly performing distributed systems for data analytics on Azure, we publish in top-conferences and are actively involved in open-source projects.
In particular, we participate in various open-source projects including Hadoop, Heron, Spark, etc., and actively make contributions which improve the state-of-the-art. We are building scheduling technologies for operating clusters of tens of thousands of machines, and storage technologies handling Exabytes of data, we tackle SLAs for streaming services and leverage ML-based techniques for query optimization. As a research group we collaborate with team across Microsoft product and research divisions, from SQLServer, to HDInsight, from MSR to Bing. Master or PhD in computer science
Machine Learning or Data Science training or practical experience
Experience building and shipping production grade software or services.
Experience building and operating online services and fault-tolerant distributed systems.
Experience creating and shipping V1 products using modern development practices.
Experience using agile methodologies or test-driven development (TDD).
Great curiosity and willingness to question.
