A Day in the Life
You will be joining the Hardware Center of Excellence (COE) team, focusing on Capital Hardware. This team is comprised of Mechanical Design Engineers and R&D Engineers. The Capital Hardware COE is responsible for the design and development of new Surgical Robotics Capital Hardware as well as the maintenance and enhancement of existing Capital Hardware. In addition, you will contribute to the establishment of best practices as we develop ourselves into a true design Center of Excellence.
The Senior R&D Engineer is both a technical/project leader and contributor in a fast-paced R&D environment, working within a team to deliver advanced technical expertise and solutions to complex engineering problems.

Work as part of an engineering team in the Design and Development of new and existing Capital Hardware for the Robotic Assisted Surgery (RAS) platform
Develop, analyze, troubleshoot, and provide technical skills during new product development and post-launch support.
Design and execute testing to investigate design feasibility.
Oversee ongoing projects within the Capital Hardware COE and serve as a liaison between project management and cross-functional technical teams.
Assess project issues and develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and objectives.
Develop mechanisms for monitoring Capital Hardware COE project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, functional managers, and stakeholders.
May serve as an extended core-team lead.
Support CDPs, CAPAs, and any other sustaining related activities.
Contribute to the establishment of Engineering Verification and Reliability Test Plans.
Oversee product testing and creation of models and prototypes.
Act as liaison with Systems Engineering, Integration, System Verification/Validation, Sustaining, and Software groups.
Create documentation with design controls and risk analysis in accordance with established SOPs.
Incorporate required regulatory standards (FDA, ISO) in developmental engineering projects including written protocols, test methods, assembly processes and the Design History File.
Prepare and maintain research findings, summaries, logs, and notes and develop statistical results or research.
Prepare reports, presentations, and spreadsheets of an analytical and interpretative nature to solve complex problems.
Remains abreast of laboratory analytical applications to include changes/enhancements in research studies, laboratory technology, and research standards.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Bachelors degree required
Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience
Nice to Have
A minimum of Bachelor of Science in Engineering, or equivalent.
Minimum of 6 years of experience as a contributing member of engineering projects
Experience with risk management process e.g. FMEA
Experience with Agile, JIRA, and JAMA
Advanced knowledge of system-level hardware and software design & development, requirements definition, analysis, and risk mitigation
Proven track record contributing to products of high complexity
Demonstrated skills in managing priorities
Experience working with multiple teams on concurrent, interdependent projects
Experience with relevant technologies including:
Mechanical engineering (particularly high-accuracy motor-controlled mechanisms)
Electrical engineering (particularly networked / embedded computing elements)
Sensors and actuators
Solid understanding of structured product development (requirements-driven engineering, documentation, rigorous verification, etc.)
Redundant and safety-critical systems
ISO 60601, 62304, 14971. Well-versed in medical product R&D and clinical/regulatory process
Fluency in English required
