Be part of a team assessing and driving achievement of program specific performance within Honeywell Aerospace, Engines & Power Systems. This position is in the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Project Engineering department located in Phoenix, Arizona. This position will provide you with the opportunity to join the team and work in all aspects of the Project Engineering role supporting large commercial APUs. As a Principal Project Engineer, you will be the primary technical decision maker. In this role, you will lead cross-functional teams, provide technical direction leading prioritization of work packages, design goals and objectives, build strong working relationships with our customers and drive overall program performance.

Our team's customers include the leading commercial aircraft manufacturers around the world. This role supports the Honeywell APUs that are in-service on Airbus commercial aircraft. The opportunity also exists to work APU models used on Boeing and COMAC commercial aircraft. Typical work activities include service-related difficulty (SRD) root-cause investigation and resolution, cost and weight reduction, supplier coordination, production and overhaul support and advancing industry initiatives such as the validation and approval of 100% bio-fuels for use in our APUs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads APU design changes, corresponding qualification testing, and introduction of those changes.

  • For service-related difficulties (SRDs) - Leads engineering investigation to identify root-cause. Identifies potential solutions to address root cause and then leads development, qualification and introduction of effective corrective actions, with customer approvals, to address root-cause.

  • For Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) initiatives - Leads engineering work to support design / manufacturability changes including qualification and customer approvals.

  • Builds and leads effective cross-functional teams to drive work assignments and project objectives.

  • Establishes and maintains effective and responsive working relationships with counterparts at the aircraft manufacturers.

  • Deciphers customer and airworthiness requirements and establishes corresponding APU certification plans.

  • Follows both Honeywell and Customer change management processes for introduction of design changes.

  • Implements Honeywell initiatives to drive corresponding program speed, agility and financial objectives.

  • Establishes project plans including workscope with detailed budget, schedule and staffing plans.

  • Works with Project Engineering Technical Leader, Program Manager and Program Planning & Control to drive compliance to established budget, schedule and staffing plans as the program progresses.

  • Prepares technical presentations and presents information to internal and external customers.

  • Completes documentation to support work being conducted including test procedures, test reports, general customer technical communication, service bulletins and aftermarket manual updates.

  • Mentors early-career engineers.

Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics.

  • 8 years minimum of related engineering experience.

  • Due to Export restrictions, candidate must be a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident of U.S.

WE VALUE

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering.

  • Direct APU / turbine engine experience related to design, manufacturing, test, and/or customer/product support.

  • Strong commitment to customer and meeting their expectations.

  • Experience working multiple assignments concurrently - demonstrated project planning, prioritization and management skills.

  • Demonstrated takes-ownership and results-orientated attributes.

  • Experience working cross‐functionally within the larger organization and leading teams.

  • Experience working with external customers.
