Job Description:
This Principal Project Engineer will be a technical lead for the larger and more complex projects executed by the Infrastructure and Sustainability team and will be responsible for all aspects of planning and executing projects from ideation to project closure. The person in this role will potentially lead projects in process areas, buildings and infrastructure, general manufacturing processes, and packaging systems depending on business needs. The role owns overall leadership of major capital projects through the Mars Wrigley Engineering Execution Standard for executional excellence in project delivery.
Location: These roles will either be based out of, or require significant travel to, all of our major sites across North America (Hackettstown, Elizabethtown, Cleveland, Chicago, Gainesville, Topeka or Waco). Open to candidate sitting at one of our Mars Wrigley sites. Approximately 20-50% travel requirement depending on project demands.
This associate will concentrate on infrastructure (buildings) and utilities, as well as manage either the safety or quality portfolio for the North American region. This role will also be coaching/mentoring engineers executing infrastructure and utility network projects.
Long term this role has responsibilities to drive Technology capability within the entire team, as well as line management responsibility for up to 4 associates and/or major project management for the team.
Education
Bachelors of Science in engineering; an advanced degree in engineering, MBA or PMP certification considered a plus.
Skills/Experience
10+ years of experience in a comparable technical position - food, beverage, pharmaceutical or related industry preferable
In-Depth understanding of project management principals and general knowledge of engineering disciplines: Building, Infrastructure, Civil, Utilities, Process, Packaging, Electrical and Construction
In-depth understanding of functional engineering area of expertise - Infrastructure and Utilities.
Strong leadership experience around construction safety, specifically in the area of civil, building construction, and utility system construction.
Team skills - high performance team experience
Proven track record in developing and executing projects of $50M+, managing direct reports and project teams
Excellent communication, listening and influencing skills
Good innovation management and critical thinking skills
Able to work collaboratively with other groups
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure and Utilities Technology Owner, responsible for working collaboratively within regional and global cross functional teams to develop and execute capital strategy for the NA region
Member of the Infrastructure and Sustainability Engineering Leadership team, focused on upskilling the team in various technologies and project management execution
Direct line management for small team of up to 4 project engineers
Develop standards for equipment, systems and engineering processes and collaborate with other senior engineers and global technical teams
Work with R&D and global technical teams to support the development of technology platforms for providing a sustained technical advantage
Develop and execute projects of $50M+ that meet business objectives, while ensuring compliance to safety, quality, security and environmental standards
Participate in staffing and management strategy for engineering associates that may be distributed across multiple Mars Wrigley sites
