VIEW JOBS 1/10/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-04-10T00:00 Every industry will be disrupted by the power and intelligence of the cloud. And the future always begins with Developers. We're looking for a lead to build out a new team of PMs who are building a consolidated Azure SDK. This person would have the breadth of context on what developers are trying to build with the cloud along with depth necessary to speak to the shortcomings of the developer experience across the major cloud service providers. Over the past few years, we've improved many aspects of the Azure SDK; but there's a lot more to do still. The SDKs and their samples are a reflection of the underlying services; as customers try to use the services together they often find inconsistencies that make it challenging to use them in the same application. In this role, you'd work with industry leaders on cloud services and developer experiences to create a consistent, diagnosable, idiomatic Azure development platform. Basic: * 5+ years' Program or Product Management experience * Program Management experience should include customer development, design and prioritization. * 3+ years' experience as a Manager * Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field Preferred: * Services Experience – We're hoping to find someone who has experience running a production service platform so they can empathize with our partners on the Azure Services teams * API Design / Programming Language Experience – A significant part of this role is about creating tasteful API experiences. This requires both taste as well as an ability to systematically dissect the use cases for an API to determine if it would work for the broad masses * Community Engagement – Experience working as a community ambassador on a standards body or a high-use open source framework or platform component would help in this role. * Architectural Background for Distributed Systems / Microservice architected apps – If you've built a high-scale application that was architected as a Microservice and can speak to how and why you chose your caching strategy – then you might be a good fit for this role * Ability to be creative, thoughtful, and critical. * Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. DDJL Microsoft is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, ancestry, color, family or medical care leave, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital status, medical condition, national origin, physical or mental disability, political affiliation, protected veteran status, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable laws, regulations and ordinances. We also consider qualified applicants regardless of criminal histories, consistent with legal requirements. If you need assistance and/or a reasonable accommodation due to a disability during the application or the recruiting process, please send a request via the Accommodation request form. Benefits/perks listed below may vary depending on the nature of your employment with Microsoft and the country where you work. In this role, you'd create a unified platform with consistent APIs; where diagnostics, logging, security, identity, and error handling are ubiquitous and consistent; where the SDKs are consistent with each other and work well with each other by default; where our compute resources that run customer code like Azure App Service and Azure Functions support the latest versions of languages; and where the ecosystem of third party and open source software that developers expect to work on Azure are present. In short, the central SDK team is responsible for: * Design patterns for versioning, handling authentication (including support for MSI), logging and error handling, and client side telemetry * A common engineering system, including source control structure, build scripts and related tools, test infrastructure, and a CI system * Standards and support for a common set of helper libraries (e.g. for AMQP) The team will use an "open source" model, running the project as a company-wide open source project. This enables the central team to set guidance to ensure engineering system efficiency and consistency, and empowers individual teams to make check-ins as necessary. Over time, this will become an external "open source" project as well. You'll work with the architect board and user research to envision the developer experience through customer development, user studies, market research, and competitive analysis. You'll work across the development team, other PMs across Azure and the User Education team to facilitate bringing the product to market. We aim to exemplify customer obsession. For us, that means that each of us talk with direct users or aspirational users of our product multiple times per week. Customer context is the currency within our organization. Legitimate customer research must always back up our vision. We like to be out with customers, at their worksites, at conferences, etc. Because we're building a product that targets developers, everyone on our team of Program / Product Managers can and does code. In this role, you'll get the perfect mix of technical plus business and product development. We like to think that our job is half anthropology – studying how developers use their tools, and half craftsmanship – refining the workflows we enable to ensure that we're optimizing every second of the developers' workflow.
