The CSCP Organization is responsible for traditional supply chain functions such as Plan, Source, Make, Deliver, but also manages supportability (spares), decommissioning and disposition of Data center assets worldwide. We deliver the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform for external customers. Our infrastructure is comprised of a large global portfolio of more than 200 datacenters supporting services for more than 1 billion customers in over 90 countries worldwide.

The Cloud Manufacturing Operations and Fulfilment (CMOF) organization within CSCP manages manufacturing operations and fulfillment of IT hardware for Microsoft's data centers worldwide. Within the CMOF, the Readiness Engineering & Sovereign (RE&S) organization plays a key role in the Pre-Dock and First Footprint readiness for GPU, Compute, Storage, and all other resource types, as well as end-to-end Sovereign execution across CSCP. We are looking for a deeply technical Principal Program Manager to support our newly formed Design for Deployment (DFD) function with a special focus on AI growth and execution. DFD is to ensure that our deployment processes can support the increasing speed of technical innovation with an ability to scale operations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

o OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years Compute/Storage/GPU product or networking new technology development experience in the Cloud.
  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years industry experience in enterprise process engineering in a complex cross-functional matrixed environment, technical program management, and Infrastructure deployment operations

  • 3+ years industry experience in product/process Design for Excellence with emphasis on operational optimization at scale

  • Deep technical working knowledge for server, networking and data center technologies. Expertise in deployment of high-performance, highly available, large scale distributed network and related technologies.

  • Experience with data analysis/presentation, SQL and Power BI or equivalent skills and knowledge.

  • Demonstrated technical problem solving and analytical, verbal, written, interpersonal communication skills with attention to detail.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced dynamic environment with rapidly changing requirements.

  • Understanding of process engineering and optimization, including gathering, analyzing, and defining business and functional requirements; creating global metrics, trend charts and other decision-making tools.

  • Well versed in project management methodologies, approaches and tools with a PMP certification preferred.

  • A track record of partnering with software engineering teams to drive improvements in tooling and automation.

  • Knowledge of Supply Chain principles - Planning, Sourcing and Delivering.

  • Lean Six Sigma experience is a major plus.

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.

This role will strategically connect new technology product teams and networking teams with operational deployment teams, ensuring that downstream process impact is a critical design trade-off criteria from the very start of the new product process. We are looking for a technical leader who can leverage existing, and quickly build new relationships with all product and networking design teams to ensure optimized decision making. This person will also be expected to build in-depth deployment process expertise and help design robust process and tooling solutions that can handle new product changes.

With a technical program management and process improvement mindset, this role is responsible for ensuring smooth onboarding of new technology to our Cloud capacity delivery processes. The role is 50% focused on influencing product and networking design decisions, and 50% on managing and mitigating risks driven by new technology innovation.

Builds partnerships across product new technology teams across server and network and deployment teams.

Influences product and networking design decisions to ensure downstream impact is a values design criterion.

Works with our partners to articulate the benefits of simplification and standardization, as well as product and Data Center fungibility.

Assesses, tracks and mitigates risks that new technology brings to deployment processes and tools.

Manages onboarding process to growth for assigned new product technology projects, ensuring smooth transition and minimal process impact. Develops engineering requirements and collaborates with partner software engineering teams to develop automation for new technologies.

Develops a deep understanding of the workflows in the system as well as the actual work required by data centers and engineering groups. Leads initiatives to enhance processes and drive standardization against mainstream deployments.

Leads strategic efforts to reimagine deployment models in support of technology transformations that minimize cycle times and defect rates while being able to handle new hardware generations.

Finds innovative solutions to manage deployment process complexity, maintaining and improving deployment cycle times and defect rates

Develops Design for Deployment metrics focused on design fungibility, deployment cycle time and quality.

Partners with deployment teams to minimize disruptions caused by new technology changes.

Collaborates closely with data center PM's and Engineering groups as a part of process enhancements.

Drives process standards and common methodologies for various physical and logical deployment activities such as network cabling installation, procurement, docking coordination, network provisioning, etc.

Makes data-driven decisions and speaks to key stakeholders in terms of data-driven stories.
