Position Summary

Academic Technology sets the strategy for a portfolio of enterprise-wide products and platforms enabling the activities of academic stakeholders across the university. The Academic Technology team designs, develops, configures, enhances, optimizes, and maintains core enterprise technologies ensuring functionality, quality, business value, user-experience, and digital accessibility of the products and platforms meet the expectations of the campus community. Academic Technology fuels ITS' cloud-first strategy by strategically reducing technical debt in partnership with other departments and teams leveraging cutting-edge techniques to accelerate releases using automation and application lifecycle management standards and tools.

The Principal Product Manager will serve as the enterprise technical expert and lead the development of product plans, release planning, and research of emerging trends in learning technologies as key member of the Academic Technology leadership team. The Principal Product Manager will collaborate closely with the academic and technology communities, as well as Bruin Learn, faculty information, and Student Product leaders.

As well as coordinator with Instructional Technology, Change Management and Training. The Principal Product Manager will be responsible for supporting the design, testing, delivery, monitoring, and refinement of Academic Technology at UCLA to maximize the features, functionality and adoption. The Principal Product Manager will conduct customer research and collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization to develop and communicate a distinct product vision.

This role will guide product teams to deliver and sustain the end-to-end customer experience. The Principal Product Manager will enable a thriving community of learners to enrich the learning experience and help transform the future of UCLA's teaching and learning at scale.The Principal Product Manager will positively impact University culture by working together with organizational leadership to use insights and data to deliver academic technology services comprehensively and consistently across the University. This role will execute UCLA's vision while promoting UCLA's culture and values.

Salary & Compensation

  • UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

Qualifications

7 years experience working in one or more of the following fields: product management, project management, information technology, IT service management, or related field. (Required) Extensive experience in product management, preferably in the education or academic technology sector, with a track record of successful product launches and improvements. (Required) Significant experience leading the end-to-end product development lifecycle, from concept to launch and ongoing refinement. (Required) Demonstrated experience relaying technical information to audiences of technical and non-technical stakeholders. (Required) Demonstrated experience delivering concurrent projects to various stakeholder types. (Required) Significant experience working in a project-based environment using leading project management practices. (Required) Demonstrated experience using judgement to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of significant scope and complexity. (Required) Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university. (Preferred) 10+ years experience working in one or more of the following fields: product management, project management, information technology, IT service management, or related field. (Preferred) Customer-focused approach to product design and development, with a deep understanding of user needs and behavior. (Required) In-depth understanding of learning technologies, educational software, and digital tools used in academic settings. (Required) Proven ability to think strategically, analyze market trends, and translate insights into actionable product strategies. (Required) Skilled in building and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, students, IT teams, and administrators. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams, inspire collaboration, and drive product innovation. (Required) Strong written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate complex technical ideas to a diverse community of colleagues and stakeholders. (Required) Able to establish and advance positive working relationships, providing guidance and recommendations to diverse community of colleagues including team members, stakeholders, and customers. (Required) Advanced organizational skills and is able to balance competing priorities. (Required) Able to define gathering efforts evaluating solution options and making strategy-aligned recommendations. Demonstrated ability to make decisions with integrity. (Required) Able to cultivate an inclusive environment that values equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. (Required) Thinks creatively and incorporates innovations from the industry, such as the incorporation of new technologies or processes. Thrives in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

Bachelor's Degree Product management, information technology, computer science, public administration, business administration, communications, or related field, or equivalent experience/training. (Required) Other Type of Degree Advanced degree in one or more of the following fields: product management, information technology, computer science, public administration, business administration, communications. (Preferred)
