DNV GL - Energy is looking for a Principal Product Manager to work in our Renewables Advisory business. The Principal Product Manager first responsibility will be listening, learning, and working with business leaders to design, strategize, plan, and implement solutions to realize strategic business outcomes in support of our business strategy and will also take on target business outcomes and drive project teams to success by conducting customer interviews, running design sprints, prioritizing features, managing roadmaps, determining which resources are needed, performing market assessments, translating business-to-technical requirements, modeling pricing and revenue, and defining and tracking success metrics. The ideal candidate has several years working with these core competencies and developing them with experience, good role models, and mentoring.

Additionally, in this position, you will work in an unconstrained fashion to define a 3-year vision for Product Management in Renewables Advisory by first leading key innovation teams, understanding our customers, and establishing best practices.

You should be ready to take on big challenges and be excited by the opportunities inherent in leading organizational change efforts.

Please recognize that as part of building a product management organization from the ground up, the successful applicant is going to have to get involved in the details of doing a lot of things, help out at the ground level in various different ways, communicate often, coach others, operating independently and without well-defined corporate boundaries.

What you will be doing:

  • Operating without constraints to do things a better way based on the latest and greatest thinking around Product Management

  • Defining compelling visions for both technical products and traditional services

  • Defining and managing the product or service roadmap towards achieving specific business outcomes

  • Working closely with customers, both internal and external, to understand and identify where real value can be created and/or selling the value of our solutions to them

  • Working alongside some of the most senior and talented analysts and engineers in renewable energy

  • Advising executive leadership as we build out a scalable product management organization around the US and/or the world

  • Pushing back against the effects of climate change by expediting the deployment of renewable energy plants and maximizing their operational performance

This position may be based out of our Oakland, CA; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; San Diego, CA; Austin, TX or Houston, TX; Medford, MA; Arlington, VA or Oak Brook, IL office. Remote may be considered.

Tasks May Include

  • Create a product vision that excites the customer and is based on market research and business value

  • Define strategic and measurable goals for your team on 90-day cycles and support them as the group moves towards hitting short term goals in pursuit of longer-term objectives and outcomes

  • Manage the product or service roadmap and work with your team to keep it up-to-date

  • Look beyond the near-term and take a 3-year horizon of how we not only deliver customer-value driven products, and services, but how we do it at scale and in a way that delights our customers, our teams, and our executive leadership

  • Engage both Market Directors and Operation Directors to talk about product management and how we can think differently about the products or services we are offering

  • Developing business models to support investment

  • Build and lead a team of other Product Managers who can work collaboratively to raise the standards and drive innovation across the organization.

Position Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, computer engineering, physics, mathematics or a related field of study. Master's Degree preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years experience working as the primary product manager for a key product in a commercial company

  • Minimum 3 years experience making the important architecture and design decisions on software projects, such as the application of architecture design patterns or significant open source technologies

  • 5 years of experience working in Renewable Energy industry preferred

  • Experience designing, organizing and running design sprints with real customers required

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a managerial position at a professional services company is desired

  • Must have experience drafting business models and producing supporting financial models to encourage financial investment in a product or service

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation

  • Strong leadership skills: good communicator and collaborator, passionate about renewable energy, able to motivate teammates, and influence decision makers

  • Professional and constructive attitude, able to work in multicultural, diverse environment, experience working with global teams

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills

  • We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening
