A Day in the Life:

You will actively participate in new product development teams with specific responsibility for developing robust and capable manufacturing processes, ensuring R&D and Operations needs and targets are incorporated into the plans and activities. You will participate on cross-functional development teams that manage projects from concept through commercialization and will have a central technical role within the project team. As a seasoned individual contributor, you will provide solutions to complex technical problems associated with processes and equipment using problem solving techniques and methodologies.

You will be involved in process innovation with emphasis on improving quality, reducing process variation, reducing cycle time and cost down initiatives. You will perform complex analysis and provide recommendations on process improvements. You will participate in or lead Equipment and Process Development, Process Characterization and Process Qualification to support new product introduction. You will utilize functional excellence in process development including DRM, MOS, Process Characterization, Equipment Development, COS and Six Sigma.

As a technical leader, you may provide guidance, coaching and training to other employees within the team. You will drive results on project teams, through building relationships and strong technical decision making.   • Partners with Design Engineering to identify Design for Manufacturability and Assembly targets

  • Plans and coordinates the execution of process characterization and validation

  • Successfully complete all the Process Development Engineering elements of the PDP by the milestone dates

  • Work with drafting and documentation departments to create all required documents (manufacturing processes, drawings, protocols, reports, etc.)

  • Ensures process capability and yield targets are met

  • Provide mentoring and direction to more junior technical staff

  • Hands-on development of manufacturing processes

  • Present status of plans and projects to larger team.

  • Develop requirements and procure equipment for manufacturing processes

  • Lead small team(s) for process development or problem solving

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Designs, develops, analyzes, troubleshoots and provides technical skills during research and/or product development.

  • Designs studies to investigate specific life science questions within field of expertise.

  • May be involved in product research and development and/or clinical trials.

  • Translates research discoveries into usable and marketable products.


  • BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, or related technical field) with 7-10 years experience

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Good presentation skills

  • Leadership and self-starter qualities

  • Experience developing and validating medical device manufacturing processes (IQ, OQ, PQ, and PPQ)

  • Working knowledge of PFMECAs, sampling plans, normality assessment, and capability assessment

  • Process validation protocol and report writing

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills

  • History of successfully transferring projects to manufacturing

  • Excel and Word skills

  • Six Sigma training; Minitab and Design Expert skills (DOE and other statistical analysis)

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS degree (Mechanical, or related technical field) with 10 years experience

  • Stent, balloon, or other medical device catheter manufacturing experience

  • Experience with polymer extrusion, reflow, thermal bonding, and adhesive bonding

  • Able to travel up to 25%

JOB DESCRIPTION: We are looking for a high caliber Principal Mechanical Engineer to use multidisciplinary engineering knowledge to design and develop innovative medical devices or components/subsystems in support of company's strategic plan in the electrophysiology market. Provide project-wide technical leadership on development projects Job Duties: * Design devices to meet user needs. Establish requirements and specifications for these devices (including justifications and supportive testing). * Work with project management to develop, manage, and maintain overall program schedules. Manage program tasks within schedule. * Lead design reviews and support physician visits * Use empirical, numeric, and experimental analysis to evaluate designs. Lead test method and model development. Develop site standards. * Prepare and submit invention disclosures and guide investigations into promising areas. * Identify and mitigate project and site product-line risks. * Work with internal departments and external vendors to obtain prototypes and to expand the capabilities of these groups. * Establish site-wide technical competence in specific areas. * Provide site technical leadership based on a detailed understanding of the developing clinical environment (i.e. current treatment methods, evolving clinical needs etc.). * Maintain a detailed understanding of the quality and regulatory requirements.
