Overview
The Principal Process Control Engineer is responsible for providing process control leadership in support of the reliable operation and continuous improvement of the production lines at the Pensacola Specialty Elastomers Plant. This role is responsible for providing reliable DCS operation in the areas of hardware and software support, including upgrades, backups, performance tracking, administration, and security. This role works alongside the Process Control Specialist to provide daily control system troubleshooting, optimization, and improvement for the production lines.
Responsibilities
Primary Functions
Main point of contact for day-to-day controls optimization and improvement
Provide support and assistance for plant DCS systems as needed to support operations
Provide support and assistance for plant PLC systems as needed to support operations
Develop, coordinate, and execute process control-related projects and MOC's for continuous improvement, including design and programming
Support capital and expense projects, as needed, for plant improvements including design and implementation
Troubleshoot and repair hardware, software, and process control issues.
Support engineers, operations and maintenance technicians in troubleshooting production line issues
Schedule and complete software backups and PM's, as needed, including ensuring that system backup files are kept in compliance with plant guidelines
Maintain Delta V Continuous Historian and programming of PI data historian to ensure the integrity of all data in historians
Network with sister plant and 3rd party vendors to share learnings and drive improvement
Continuously engage in the production facility to identify and remove barriers inhibiting flawless production
Assist in the development of operating procedures and technician training
Maintain an on-call schedule with the Process Control Specialist to provide after-hours troubleshooting support as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Engineering Degree (Electrical, Electronic or Chemical desired) from an accredited university, OR 7 years Delta V Control systems experience equivalent
Minimum 5 yrs of hands-on experience working with instrumentation and control systems in a manufacturing environment.
Strong analytical & troubleshooting skills, with demonstrated ability to identify and resolve issues through monitoring of performance trends
Knowledge of DCS and PLC hardware and software support, including upgrades, backups, performance tracking, and administration and security.
Ability to evaluate data and provide related maintenance activity and frequency reports.
Ability to train Operations staff in system, to achieve effective utilization of the DCS.
Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Experience
Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to communicate effectively to all levels of an organization
High level of ownership and initiative
Experience working on instrumentation and control systems common to manufacturing industry (flow meters, pressure indicators, control valves).
Familiarity with Emerson DeltaV and PI software
Experience in identification and troubleshooting of instrumentation, PLC, and interface malfunctions
Experience in troubleshooting and repairing computer or control system hardware
Experience with development and execution of small capital projects.
Ability to read and understand basic logic and loop diagrams
Familiarity with manufacturing operations (chemical, refining, etc.) and associated safe work practices
Knowledge in management of change work processes
