About the Principal Platform Software Engineer

HPE SimpliVity is currently seeking highly qualified and motivated candidates for a Principal Platform Software Engineer to be located in Westborough, MA. No relocation assistance available at this time.

In this role, reporting to the Manager of Platform Engineering, you will be responsible for the integration of the hyper-converged software stack with new hardware platforms based on commodity processors and memory infrastructures. This is an exciting growth opportunity to contribute to advancing our software stack with cutting-edge kernel, user space and hypervisor technologies.

You'll have opportunity to work on the products we deliver and support, while gaining experience as a Senior Systems Engineer, which can lead to future careers within HPE.

Compensation commensurate with experience.


  • Design and develop real time embedded software solutions using C/C++ programming language

  • Participate in architecture, design and implementation tradeoffs with hardware and software teams at the architecture, hardware, software, firmware and driver levels

  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Required

  • BSCS/BSEE or equivalent

  • At least 4 years' experience developing real time embedded storage, server, or networking products

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Experience with Linux device driver development

  • Ability to debug kernel level problems

  • Experience developing storage [DP3] or networking products

  • Experience with Linux device driver development

  • Ability to debug kernel level problems

  • Working knowledge of C/C++

  • Proven ability to understand, define, and articulate complex software design including embedded algorithm implementation

  • Strong analysis and system level debug skills working with hardware, driver and host software engineers

  • Experience in use of advanced development/debugging tools including C compilers, KGDB, kernel core dump

  • Experience with code optimization techniques at the embedded level

Knowledge and Skills Desired

  • Prior experience with embedded systems, storage, kernel level debugging, and device drivers is strongly desired

  • Experience with performance profiling and performance tuning in multicore environment

  • OS storage driver experience

Essential Responsibilities: * Ensure early focus on manufacturability in New Product Introduction and/or Advanced Technology programs * Represent manufacturing on cross-functional business project teams and process development teams * Drive rigor in process capability assessment, process layout, tooling and equipment development and QMS design Transfer execution * Lead Design for Manufacturability (DFM) initiatives by preparing Process Flow Charts, Product Risk Maps, and pFMEA to identify opportunity to reduce cycle time, improve quality, and avoid EHS Issues.
