We are currently seeking experienced, dynamic, highly motivated team players to join us as a PrincipalParks/Facilities Maintenance Workerat various locations within the Commission.

Under general supervision of a Park General Maintenance Leader the successful candidate will perform a variety of general park maintenance tasks such as playground repairs, grass mowing, trash removal, athletic field renovation and maintenance, trail maintenance, tree planting, pruning, and aftercare cleaning, repairing park buildings and structures while working with and occasionally leading teams of career and/or seasonal employees. The ideal candidate should possess skills to operate trucks, tractors with attachments, large riding mowers, loaders, and forklifts. Trade skills in carpentry and painting is a plus.

Examples of Important Duties

  • Operation of mid-sized to large equipment to include large mowers, tractors with attachments, backhoe,loaderetc.

  • Operation of trucks, truck and trailer combinations, snowplows, dump trucks, trash trucks, etc.

  • Hauling heavy-duty tractors, skid steer or other large equipment using a trailer and CDL vehicles.

  • Occasional supervision of park maintenance employees performing general park maintenance tasks.

  • Ability to perform minor repairs to playground equipment, carpentry, custodial, and preventivemaintenancetasks.

  • Performgeneralmaintenancetoplaygrounds,buildings,andgrounds.

  • Responds to emergencies and inclement weather conditions such as hurricanes, blizzards, andearthquakes.

  • Athletic field maintenance includes operating tractor w/ attachment to rake, drag and grade fields. Alsosprayspesticides

  • Ability to work independently and be proficient in grounds maintenance as well as custodial services.

  • Maintaininventoriesofsuppliesandmaterials.

  • Performs stormwater facilities preventive maintenance according to the Department of Environment Protection standards.

  • Maintain bio-retention and rain garden facilities with balanced vegetation and free of weeds.

Working Conditions:

  • Incumbentprimarilyworksoutsidewithacombinationof officework occasionally or as assigned.

  • Exposure to various elements and all types of weather conditions, waste, caustic chemicals, pesticides,wildlife,andpotentiallyharmful insects (e.g.: bees, hornets, wasps etc.).

  • Work requires constant kneeling, bending, twisting, lifting, and carrying of heavy objects of up to 100 pounds.

  • Anessential employeerequired to be on-call24hoursforanyemergencies.

  • Must be available to work weekends and evenings as necessary.

ADDITIONALINFORMATION:

  • Incumbent may be required to possess a CDL / PAC or have the ability to attain one within 6 months of employment. Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications

1.High school graduate or GED, and four years of progressively responsible experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance, or park maintenance; and demonstrated ability to read and understand materials and instructions and write routine records and reports; or

2.An equivalent combination of education and experience.

3.Pass Commission medical examination.

4.Valid driver's license.

5.Additionally, contingent upon area of assignment, some positions in this class may require:

a. Commercial Driver's License with appropriate endorsements upon appointment, or the ability to acquire one within six months.

b. Maryland Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator's certification in the categories appropriate to the work assignment.

c. Certification by the National Playground Safety Institute.
