The Principal Real Estate Paralegal provides leadership to paralegals and legal assistants within the Real Estate Acquisitions Legal team in addition to overall support for matters related to the Company's real estate portfolio and activities. The Principal Real Estate Paralegal will be responsible for tracking escrows, managing workflow of paralegals and legal assistants, and continuously improving internal processes. This position will regularly report to in-house real estate counsels on the status of real estate escrows and other related matters. Reporting will be an important function of this position and the candidate should exhibit strong communication and technology skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides expert level real estate support in commercial purchase, sale, administration, and leasing matters.
  • Researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties and legal codes.
  • Drafts and negotiates legal documents such as easements, lease amendments, contract amendments, development agreements, CC&Rs, escrow agreements, and other documents related to transactions.
  • Composes, prepares, copies, transcribes and distributes internal contract and title digests, closing binders, and other documents as requested.
  • Closes real estate transactions, including coordinating with landlords, buyers, sellers, and title companies.
  • Provides guidance and leadership to the other paralegals and legal assistants.
  • Conducts title review and manages title issues throughout the escrow process.
  • Updates appropriate parties on status of transactions and works with in-house attorneys and real estate development team to coordinate various real estate transactions.
  • Files correspondence and legal documents in office filing systems.
  • Updates and organizes binders and various charts of real estate transactions (acquisitions and leases) in escrow.
  • Arranges conference calls with internal and external parties.
  • Supports real estate projects, such as development of real estate-related processes, policies, form transaction documents and training materials.
  • Manages and maintains internal databases, systems and files.
  • Represents Company values professionally in the community and at public gatherings.
  • Exhibits strong project management skills and assists managers.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications:

  • This position requires a minimum of eight years of paralegal experience, preferably legal although not required.
  • Strong understanding of technical legal terminology.
  • Exhibits strong project management skills with the ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates a can-do attitude and attention to detail.
  • Excellent telephone or video-conferencing etiquette, data entry, typing, copying, faxing, filing and scheduling skills, are required.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office suite programs such as Outlook, OneDrive, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams, etc., is required.
  • This position also requires excellent communication, organizational, detail-oriented and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work efficiently under pressure, accurately meet deadlines, present a professional demeanor and work well independently is essential.
  • Advanced customer service skills including the ability to manage, adapt and respond to different customer situations while maintaining a positive and friendly attitude is essential.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and work independently with high level of independent motivation.
  • Maintaining confidentiality, treating others with respect and upholding Company values is key.

Educational Requirements:

This position requires a paralegal certificate. Bachelor's degree preferred

Team lead experience preferred.

Work Days:

Normal work days are Monday through Friday
