Qualifications:

1.N.J.S.A. 18A:27.1 et seq., and N.J.A.C. Title 6 Chapter 11, with a principal endorsement (N.J.A.C 6:11-9.3 and 9.5).

2.Hold a Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.

3.Have at least three (3) years excellent administrative experience as an Assistant Principal, Supervisor and excellent experience in teaching and working with adolescents.

4.Demonstrate excellent leadership and organizational skills and the ability to motivate people.

5.Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.

6.Hold a valid driver's license with no serious violations.

7.Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning.

8.Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community.

9.Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.

10.Provide proof of U. S. citizenship or legal resident alien status by completing Federal Form I-9 in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.



  1. Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and clearance has been given by the Department of Education. During the initial six-month period, provide a sworn statement that there have not been any convictions of a crime or a disorderly person's offense in accordance with 18A:6-7.1.

12.Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with 12. N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4.

13.Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6:3- 4A.4.

14.Meet such alternates to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may deem appropriate, acceptable and legal.

Reports To: Superintendent and/or designee

Job Goal:

Serves as the educational leader of a school or designated area of responsibility, responsible for implementing and managing the policies, regulations, and procedures of the Board of Education to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe learning environment that meets and exceeds the State Core Curriculum Content Standards, following the approved curricula and directives of the school. Achieving academic excellence requires that School Principal or assignment work collaboratively to lead and nurture all members of the school staff and to communicate effectively with parents, members of the community, and colleagues in other districts and schools. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for planning, curriculum development, program evaluation, extracurricular activities, personnel management, financial management, emergency procedures, resource scheduling, and facilities operations.

Responsibilities:

1.Monitors school improvement efforts at work location(s).

2.Assists in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of school improvement plan(s).

3.Provides support to all school locations in the use of assessment data to improve student achievement.

4.Supports administrators/instructional personnel in the implementation of the district's goals.

5.Compiles and submits all and/or supports completion of all required documentation or reports for school improvement at the assigned work location.

6.Provides instructional leadership for student achievement.

7.Monitors the development, implementation, and assessment of the instructional program and implementation of the school improvement plan at the assigned location.

8.Uses current research, performance data, and feedback from students, teachers, parents, and the community to make decisions related to improvement of instruction and student performance.

9.Promotes highest student achievement.

10.Coordinates program planning with District instructional staff.



  1. Aligns school initiatives with District, state, and school goals as directed by the superintendent or designee.

12.Facilitates the horizontal and vertical articulation of curriculum within the school locations.

13.Monitors school personnel in special projects for the enhancement of student learning.

14.Monitors job assignments for school-site administrators, teachers, and support personnel.

15.Monitors and provides personnel development through training, in-service, and other developmental activities.

16.Provides training opportunities and feedback to personnel at the assigned school locations.

17.Develops positive school/community relations and acts as liaison between the school and community.

18.Accesses, analyzes, interprets, and uses data in decision-making.

19.Conducts staff meetings to discuss instructional programs and the use of data to classroom instruction.

20.Implements School Board policies, state statutes, and federal regulations as they pertain to assigned school locations.

21.Prepares accurate and timely reports and records as required by New Jersey Department of Education.

22.Monitors family and community involvement, including the Community Assessment Team.

23.Maintains visibility and accessibility on the school campus.

24.Attends school-related activities and events.

25.Monitors school attendance (absences, tardiness, and early departures) and follows through with designated procedures at school locations.

26.Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with parents, students, teachers, District personnel, and the community.

27.Models effective listening and positive interaction skills.

28.Maintains and models high standards of professional conduct.

29.Sets high goals and standards for self, others, and organization.

30.Keeps abreast of trends and changes in educational programs and procedures.

31.Provides leadership in the school improvement plan process and implementation of the school improvement plan.

32.Exercises proactive leadership in promoting the vision and mission of the District.

33.Uses appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to guide individuals and groups to task accomplishment.

34.Accesses District and community resources to meet school needs.

35.Builds teams to accomplish plans, goals, and priorities.

36.Performs other duties as assigned

37.Conducts and finalize all staff evaluations in assigned locations in accordance with NJDOE, Achieve NJ regulations including but not limited to evaluations, SGO, PDP, CAPS, summative ratings, etc.

38.Provides administrative coverage in a school administrator's absence at various locations

39.Specifically for implementing the policy on harassment, bullying and intimidation (HIB), the role of the principal is that "the investigation shall be initiated by the principal or the principal's designee within one school day of the

40.report." The investigation is actually "conducted" by the HIB specialist. When receiving and responding to reports of HIB, the role of the school principal will include:

a. Receive verbal reports of all acts of harassment, intimidation, or bullying on the same day when the school employee or contracted service provider witnessed or received reliable information regarding any such incident;

b. The principal shall inform the parents or guardians of all students involved in the alleged incident, and may discuss, as appropriate, the availability of counseling and other intervention services; and

c. All acts of harassment, intimidation, or bullying shall be reported in writing to the school principal within two school days of when the school employee or contracted service provider witnessed or received reliable information that a student had been subject to harassment, intimidation, or bullying.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law and the provisions of the Board of Education's policy on evaluation of certified staff.
