Overview

This position is for an experienced Principal Member of Technical Staff (PMTS) with proven expertise in developing 5G/5G-Advanced/6G RAN technology solutions, including evaluation of such solutions and contribution to cellular standards organizations such as 3GPP and O-RAN. The successful candidate shall be recognized by their peers as a technical leader in this area and demonstrate the ability to develop new technology solutions, co-lead projects, and provide strategic technology leadership related to advancing AT&T's 5G-Advanced/6G cellular networks.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • This position will be responsible for creation and development of new advanced wireless concepts/technologies and evaluation of their potential for standardization and commercialization in AT&T's future network.

  • The candidate will work on air interface concepts for next generation wireless networks, including those related to RAN protocol, RAN architecture and RAN optimization.

  • The candidate shall evaluate said technologies using simulation platforms and prototype reference hardware designs as deemed necessary. Using their experience with wireless technologies and standards organizations, the individual is also expected to advise other AT&T organizations during commercial deployment of 5G-Advanced/6G networks.

Candidate Background

  • A strong foundation in wireless communication theory and deep understanding of 5G RAN protocol stack and RAN architecture are key requirements. Experience in development of RAN system requirements, modeling, and evaluation of new wireless technologies on simulation platforms and/or lab experimental/prototype systems is necessary.

  • Good understanding of O-RAN open fronthaul specifications, IoT, application of AI/ML techniques to solve RAN-related problems, experience with data-driven RAN optimization, Digital Twin or XR use cases are desirable skills.

  • Prior experience with standardization in 3GPP RAN or O-RAN working groups is a plus.

  • Develop and assess RAN technology solutions for next-generation wireless networks and determine various critical RAN requirements for hardware, software, and processing needed for such networks. Contribute requirements and proposals for 5G-Advanced and 6G specifications in 3GPP and O-RAN standards organizations.

Analysis/Problem Solving: Can solve complex, critical problems related to significant and unique issues at the system and unit level. Ability to use extensive research and interpretative thinking, utilizing innovative methods to develop solutions.

Communication Skills: Can explain and provide technical expertise to peers across the company. Actively promote good working relationships and develop mutually beneficial strategic alliances with infrastructure and device vendors.

Programming/Software Skills: Candidate must have experience with development of simulation platforms using some or all the following programming languages and software development environments: MATLAB, Python, Linux, etc.

Education and Year of Experience

  • PhD in an approved field from an approved university with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience or Masters in an approved field from an approved university with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience or a Bachelors in an approved field from an approved university with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.

Our Principal Member of Technical Staff earn between $160,900.00 - $241,300.00 USD Annually. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
