Ascend is searching for a Turnaround Unit Lead for our Alvin, Texas location. The Turnaround Unit Lead is responsible for leading the planning and execution efforts of a specific turnaround. In this capacity, this individual will be the focal point that maintains control over the work scope, planning, estimating, budgeting, scheduling and cost control for the turnaround. This person provides timely, validated and decision-making information about the turnaround's accurate status and forecast. In this role, the Turnaround Unit Lead will assist the Turnaround Manager in organizing the essential resources, firming up work scope, procuring materials, selecting contractors, and developing cost and schedule plans in the successful planning and execution of a specific turnaround.

TARGETED OUTCOMES

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the turnaround team and all the participants during the planning and execution phases

  • Facilitate in the development, communication and achievement of turnaround goals and objectives.

  • Ensure that safety, environmental compliance, mechanical integrity and operational reliability remains the key focus during turnaround planning and execution phases

  • Assistance in the timely and complete development of turnaround work scope that is essential to meet the turnaround goals

  • Work with Operations in effective planning and safe field execution

  • Ensure teamwork among all participants through all turnaround phases.

  • Facilitate effective communications through regular meetings, alignment sessions and all other information sharing channels

  • Identifying and removing roadblocks to ensure optimum utilization of Ascend and contractors' resources

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor contractor performance to assure successful turnaround execution.

  • Development of accurate check estimates and control estimates for efficient and accurate tracking of cost performance and forecasting.

  • Provide input to the Turnaround Steering Team about the planning and execution status of the turnaround

  • Responsible to protect the company's overall business interests and turnaround performance goals by ensuring effective planning and cost control and efficient field execution.

  • Integrate planning, scheduling, estimates, progress tracking and cost control into one function.

  • Maintain constant communication with turnaround personnel to develop and disseminate turnaround cost, schedule and execution requirements.

  • Assist Turnaround Manager in developing cost/budget estimates and in establishing cost baselines.

  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of contractors, sub-contractors and vendors.

  • Provide input on commercial bid evaluation and contractors' cost/schedule capabilities.

  • Participate in the evaluation of major material purchases, vendor selection and negotiations, etc.

  • Central focal point in collecting the turnaround / project work scope and managing late add-ons or changes.

  • Ensure proper interfaces and integration of capital projects and maintenance work in the turnaround plans and control documents.

  • Coordinate and assemble all planning, cost, and schedule data into a single format for all participants, contractors and vendors.

  • Ensure consistent and seamless utilization of the Turnaround Management Process and Procedures (TMPP) by all parties.

  • Ensure all turnaround participants fully understand the importance and working of the turnaround management process

  • Conduct training and orientation sessions to ensure all company staff has full understanding of turnaround process and they are fully committed to follow it in managing turnarounds

  • Ensure turnaround management process is fully utilized and complied in managing plant outages and turnarounds

  • Ensure the turnaround process is updated frequently to reflect Ascend's latest approaches to plan, manage and execute turnarounds

TEAM

  • Reports to: Turnaround Manager

  • Team: Turnaround Planners, Turnaround I&E Planners, Turnaround Cost Controls & Scheduler

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • College degree or equivalent work experience in related job function.

  • 10 year's operations, maintenance or I&E experience in an Industrial environment or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Leadership or supervisory experience is highly desired.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Self-starter with a high degree of personal motivation, energy and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, strong team player and an ability to work effectively in a high pressure environment.

  • Proven ability to achieve a range of goals on an ongoing basis by coordinating labor, equipment and other resources while maintaining high standards of safety, housekeeping and integrity of inventory.

  • Strong sense of ownership and a drive to improve existing systems and processes.

  • Solid interpersonal and organizational skills with strong verbal and written communication capabilities.

  • Common knowledge of SAP, Primavera and Windows driven programs.

  • Demonstrated expertise with scheduling tools in an outage or turnaround environment is desired.

  • Demonstrated ability to mine data from SAP to create meaningful reports & action plans.

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of environmental safety and health policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulations.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to influence others.

  • Good oral & written communication skills and the ability to interact well with others.

  • Strong analytical skills and critical thinking.

  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
