Principal IT Risk Analyst

Identifies, analyzes, monitors and minimizes the most complex areas of risk that pertain to information technology. Leads coordination with disaster recovery and data security teams.

Provides high value input into risk reports on highly complex issues. Presents reports to the business areas and Technology management. Leads high-impact and complex projects that involve working with the businesses to improve controls that would mitigate any deficiencies.

Ensures controls meet regulatory and organization standards. Develops and improves risk systems, methodologies and limits. Uses expertise of Technology and market trends to determine potential risks to the organization.

Recommends and leads any resulting change needed to mitigate risk. Contributes to the achievement of area objectives.

Qualifications Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required, advanced degree preferred. 10-12 years of related experience required. Experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus. ISACA certifications preferred.

There are five key Board-level committees which review and monitor Risk across Barclays PLC: the Board, Board Risk Committee, Board Reputation Committee, Board Audit Committee and Board Remuneration Committee. This structure is replicated across the trading entities. About Barclays International Risk Barclays International Risk is a global team focused on providing a strong second line of defense for Barclays International businesses, ensuring that BI's risk profile stays in line with its stated risk appetite and that Barclays' financial performance and reputation are protected. Overall Purpose of role * Barclays International Risk is establishing a dedicated team of Model Owners who will be responsible for a portfolio of PD, EAD and LGD models used in the management of Wholesale Credit Risk globally. * The role and that of the wider team is to be responsible for all aspects of model ownership. This includes oversight and accountability for model development, documentation, periodic review and validation, regulatory compliance and approval, implementation and monitoring. * Barclays uses models to support a broad range of activities, including formulating business strategies, informing business decisions, identifying and measuring risks, valuing exposures, conducting stress testing, assessing adequacy of capital, managing client assets, measuring compliance with internal risk limits, maintaining the formal control apparatus of the bank, meeting financial and regulatory reporting and disclosure requirements. * Key usages of these credit models include Regulatory Capital, Stress Testing (CCAR), IFRS9/CECL loss forecasting, Economic Capital and Pricing * The role is essential to the effective management of Wholesale Credit model risk within Barclays International and supports the firm's key business, risk management and regulatory priorities. Your Role * This role will be responsible for end-to-end model lifecycle management of assigned credit risk models used for estimating PD, LGD, EAD etc. * Responsible for ensuring that the model attributes are correct and updated in the global model risk database * Review the periodic model performance metrics generated using statistical techniques and provide commentary for circulating to a wider audience which include senior risk managers and subject matter experts * Respond and remediate the issues raised by independent validation unit (IVU) in a timely manner * Develop model adjustment metrics and overlays when the model performance is below expectations and breach acceptable thresholds. This requires both business acumen and analytical skills * Develop new benchmarking techniques for models in use dependent on model usage and changing economic environment * Coordinate model development meetings by collecting feedback from quantitative model developers, risk managers and subject matter experts in a cohesive manner by asking focused and valued questions. * Ensure that the model complies with all applicable regulatory rules and be updated with changing regulations by liaising with relevant regulatory teams. * Adhere to all model deadlines and ensure that all governance functions are fully informed and be responsible for managing all expectations related to the assigned models. Stakeholder Management and Leadership * This role will be very dynamic in nature requiring regular interactions with stakeholders both within risk as well as other business units. Some of these stakeholders include, Risk Subject Matter Experts, Model Risk Management, Quantative Analytics, Front-office, Finance and Compliance * Strong analytical, communication, teamwork and influencing skills is a must. * Portfolios in scope comprise both new models under development and existing models in production. For new model builds, the role will require skills in project management. The role relies on the support of a number of shared services teams, notably for model development, validation and monitoring. Basic Qualifications/Skills * Bachelor's degree preferably in a quantitative subject (e.g., mathematics, sciences, finance, engineering, economics or IT). * 2 years of experience in a risk management or similar role at large financial institutions or consultancies. Preferred Qualifications/Skills * Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with capacity to build and maintain effective working relationships across internal functions in addition to direct reporting line. * Familiarity with key regulatory frameworks, specifically CRR/CRD IV would be an asset. * Effective communication skills across a range of forums, both written and oral, and to senior audiences both internal and external. * Working knowledge of wholesale PD, EAD and LGD modelling approaches and related statistical techniques would be an asset.
