Wholesale Banking provides financial solutions to businesses across the United States and globally. Our four major business lines include Corporate & Investment Banking, Commercial Banking, Commercial Real Estate, and Wells Fargo Commercial Capital. We also have groups in credit risk, group risk, finance, marketing, human relations, and the Wholesale Chief Operating Office that support our businesses.

Wells Fargo Commercial Capital (WFCC) combines Wholesale's secured lending businesses including Commercial Distribution Finance (CDF), Corporate Trust Services (CTS), Wells Fargo Capital Finance (WFCF) and Wells Fargo Equipment Finance (WFEF). The Renewable Energy and Environmental Finance Group (REEF) is seeking a corporate credit resource to underwrite various corporate stakeholders for the purposes of evaluating new investment opportunities and to manage REEF's existing portfolio. The various stakeholders include; but are not limited to, sponsors, developers, power purchasers (corporates, municipal, IOUs and cooperatives), equipment manufacturers, financial parties and other relevant stakeholders within the ecosystem of a tax equity investment. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in the renewable energy sector.

Responsibilities include:

  • Analyze, underwrite and model a wide variety of companies that are stakeholders in REEF's tax equity investments. Companies include; but are not limited to, sponsors, infrastructure funds, yield cos, pension funds, Sovereign funds, developers, power purchasers (corporates, municipals, IOUs and cooperatives), equipment manufacturers, financial parties and other relevant stakeholders

  • Establish financial metrics, covenants and conditions precedent for sponsors as it relates to the issuance of new commitments and managing existing investments

  • Manage the process for acquiring various underwriting materials within the Wells Fargo family and with sensitivity to public/private matters

  • Prepare new underwriting memos, annual reviews, quarterly reports as appropriate for the portfolio

  • Evaluate and/or prepare the internal rating, financial modeling for new stakeholders

Team members support our focus on building strong customer relationships balanced with a strong risk mitigating and compliance-driven culture which firmly establishes those disciplines as critical to the success of our customers and company. They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following, and adhering to and if applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit's risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of commercial underwriting experience
  • 2+ years of investment research experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment

  • Effective organizational, multi tasking, and prioritizing skills

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Experience with Bloomberg

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong presentation skills

Other Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years of underwriting experience across various corporate verticals (technology, retail, financials, utilities, industrials)

  • Experience underwriting municipalities, and/or utilities

  • Experience in commercial banking, investment banking or other financial services entity

  • Ability to analyze complex credits

  • Strong understanding of project finance, the renewable energy market, and the US Power markets

  • Underwriting experience with various municipal credits (cities, co-operatives, POUs, JPAs)

  • Customer service focus with experience actively listening, eliciting information, comprehending customer issues/needs, and recommending solutions

  • Strong Interest in the renewable energy sector
