Position Summary

The UCLA Information Security Office enables UCLA's goals by providing leadership assuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of its information resources. The Information Security Office enables efficient incident response planning and notification procedures.

In addition, the office aims to implement risk assessment strategies to identify vulnerabilities and threats to departmental information resources and enterprise systems. This includes executing a comprehensive UCLA information security plan, which involves proposing, delivering, and enforcing administrative, technical, and physical security measures to tackle identified risks based on their sensitivity or criticality.

The Principal Information Security Architect will be responsible for planning, designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining a robust and secure information security architecture across all of UCLA. This highly skilled security architect will have a thorough knowledge of UCLA's business and a comprehensive understanding of the technology used for academic, administrative, and research activities that take place as part of UCLA's teaching and learning mission.

They will use this understanding of UCLA's technical landscape congruently with their understanding of advanced security principles to anticipate and proactively mitigate risks and threats through the design of a sophisticated information security architecture. The Principal Information Security Architect will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by protecting University stakeholders' information and data in service of the institution's academic mission.

This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional security service comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCLA's vision while modeling UCLA's culture and values.

Salary & Compensation

  • UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

Qualifications

7 years experience working in one or more of the following fields: information security, project management, information technology, data services, application services, IT service management, or related. (Required) Demonstrated experience relaying technical information to audiences of technical and non-technical stakeholders. (Required) Demonstrated experience delivering concurrent projects to various stakeholder types. (Required) Significant experience working in a project-based environment using leading project management practices. (Required) Demonstrated experience using judgement to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of significant scope and complexity. (Required) Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university. (Preferred) 10+ years experience working in one or more of the following fields: information security, project management, information technology, data services, application services, IT service management, or related. (Preferred) Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into long-term architecture solutions. Expertise relating to the design and development of information security across the organization. (Required) Expertise relating to the design and development of information security architecture across the organization. (Required) Enterprise-level understanding of and experience with key modeling and description languages used to map highly complex business processes to architectural components, develop common, large-scale architectures, and create reference frameworks. (Required) Robust knowledge of information security frameworks, principles, and industry leading practices. Knowledge relating to the design and development of software across the organization. (Required) Knowledge and understanding of security principles related to the protection of research and academic assets. (Required) Strong written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate complex technical ideas to a diverse community of colleagues and stakeholders. (Required) Able to establish and advance positive working relationships, providing guidance and recommendations to diverse community of colleagues including team members, stakeholders, and customers. (Required) Advanced organizational skills and is able to balance competing priorities. (Required) Able to define gathering efforts evaluating solution options and making strategy-aligned recommendations. Demonstrated ability to make decisions with integrity. (Required) Able to cultivate an inclusive environment that values equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. (Required) Thinks creatively and incorporates innovations from the industry, such as the incorporation of new technologies or processes. Thrives in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

Bachelor's Degree Information security, information technology, computer science, public administration, business administration, communications, or related field, or equivalent experience. (Required) Other Type of Degree Advanced degree in one or more of the following fields: information security, information technology, computer science, public administration, business administration, communications. (Preferred)
