Our Technology Department is currently seeking a Principal Application Engineer to join our team in our Worcester office.

This is a full time, exempt role.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Write code and develop and implement new application enhancements to existing Hanover applications and products. Develop advanced knowledge of Property and Casualty insurance concepts to improve Hanover's application systems.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU MAY:

  • Apply technical knowledge of Guidewire capabilities to create technical designs based on business requirements and technical specifications.

  • Partner with architects and technical leaders to create technical designs and specifications for software applications.

  • Apply knowledge of software development life cycle (SDLC) processes, including requirements gathering, analysis and design, development tools and technologies, release and version control, testing methodologies and deployment management, to design and modify applications that perform functions in compliance with the SDLC framework.

  • Lead best practices in source code management software use, provide software application support training and documentation, and ensure that all software applications adhere to the company's quality standards and procedures.

  • Prepare and implement software releases into the production environment and contribute to project planning, design, and estimating activities.

  • Lead DevOps transformation, building out automated code deployment, secure code scanning and QA regression testing.

  • Partnering with architecture and senior technical leadership, interprets and contributes to and may own the technical design and specifications, may assist in the evaluation and selection for application packages and assist with buy vs. build recommendations.

  • Partnering with Program Leadership to ensure the stability of deployed platforms assisting with Strategic Direction, Production/Incident Support and overall Lifecycle Management.

  • Manage team of Software Engineers providing direction through day to day development activities and career support.

WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, computer science or a related field and five to seven years of experience in the job offered or five to seven years software applications development.

  • Must be eligible to work in the US without requiring sponsorship (ie. US citizen or Greencard holder)

  • Experience must include five years each of the following:

  • converting business requirements into technical requirements;

  • design and development in Guidewire platform including integrations;

  • SDLC including technical design of Guidewire applications, testing methodologies, release and version control;

  • and leading applications developers in technical requirements.

  • Preferred experience with Guidewire 10.x.x

  • Proficient in Configuration & Integration on all the Guidewire product suite

  • 5+ years of experience developing web-based Java/J2EE applications

  • Strong understanding of Object-Oriented design and methodologies

  • JavaScript, AngularJS, AJAX, JQuery, CSS and HTML5.

  • Experience must include three years DevOps experience including leveraging automation and secure code scanning and deploying Guidewire applications in WebSphere and tomcat environments.

  • Experience may be gained concurrently.
