WSP is looking for a Principal Geologist to be a leader in our growing underground injection control (UIC) group in our Houston, Texas office. The successful candidate will be an established member of the UIC industry with extensive experience, a large contact base among operators and regulators, and have a proven command of state and federal regulations and processes. Responsibilities will primarily be related to Class I injection wells and will include leading multidisciplinary permitting and petitioning teams, working with current and new clients, communicating with regulators, and providing technical guidance internally and externally as clients obtain, renew, and maintain UIC permits and petitions.

We seek problem solvers who combine strong written and verbal communications, demonstrated quantitative and analytical skills; possess strong industry knowledge and recognition, and can develop solutions independently and master new concepts quickly to deliver high quality work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop Underground Injection Control permit applications and EPA hazardous waste no-migration petitions on behalf of WSP clients for submission to state and federal regulators.

  • Have a working knowledge of UIC regulations, practices, and personal at the State and Federal level.

  • Maintain working relationships with UIC operators in the Gulf Coast, Midwest and other US regions. Develop new clients in the UIC industry.

  • Lead multidisciplinary team to complete projects in accordance to the project scope and schedule while meeting the regulatory, quality, and budget requirements.

  • Coordinate with well intervention, drilling, and testing groups to monitor and guide adherence to permit requirements and state and federal regulations.

  • Be active in the industry through technical conferences and communication with clients, regulators, and subcontractors. Regularly communicate developments to permitting team and management. Guide emerging professionals in their technical and career grown.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 20 years of experience in the well business, with at least 15 years working on Class I wells.

  • Experience in managing projects and clients.

  • Experience in facilitating team strategy, competitive assessment/strategy communications plan, teaming, application of solutions, and focused execution of the pursuit process.

  • Strong communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and teamwork skills. Technical writing skills needs to support development of technical reports, tools, support documents and training materials.

  • Strong experience and dedicated interest in managing project support staff.

  • Ability to conduct business travel.

  • Ability to motivate and engage a team with demonstrated strength in leading highly complex groups.

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in relevant field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in Engineering or Geology from a recognized institution preferred
  • PE or PG license
  • PMP Certification
