Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a highly motivated Mission Systems Flight Test Engineer 3 to primarily support the E-2D Mission Systems Test program as part of an Integrated Test Team based out of NAS Patuxent River, MD. Candidate will provide support to all flight test activities, to include test planning, real-time data monitoring, post flight data processing, and reporting on test results. Candidate shall display professionalism, leadership, have a strong work ethic, work well with others, and be able to function as member of the E-2D Integrated Test Team. Some travel will be required, to include detachments lasting several weeks. Position is contingent on contract award.

  • Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in development of test plans/test cards

  • Participate in pre- and post-flight briefs/debriefs

  • Provide support to senior engineers to ensure testing is performed safely and efficiently

  • Plan test missions, which includes test deck preparation, leading engineering briefs/debriefs, coordination with scheduling, maintenance, and leading the test team through test missions as the link between the test engineers and the test aircraft and crew.

  • Provide support for post flight data processing and analysis as required to support mission objectives

  • Provide support in generating data releases and reports to be provided to NGC and NAVY engineering

  • Travel to Melbourne, FL to work with engineering to develop Weapon System Specification (WSS) modification and test new system software and hardware in the Software integration Lab (SIL)

  • Write Discrepancy Reports (DR's) on new software and hardware functionality and work with engineering to determine potential corrections.

  • Work alongside Navy Test aircrew to ground and flight test new system hardware and software

  • Write post-flight summaries and debrief engineers on success of flight and test points conducted as defined in the test plan

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline with five years of experience or Masters and 3 years.

  • Minimum DoD Secret Clearance and able to obtain Top Secret clearance

  • Candidate shall have experience generating technical documents and working with various software/data processing tools such as MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, and other various programming languages

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline

  • DoD Top Secret Clearance

  • Previous E-2D Hawkeye experience

  • Previous Experience with flight test

Conduct Mission System and Air Vehicle ground and flight tests, as a crewmember or non-crewmember, to support the System Specification verification process, Production Verification, and follow on testing. Defines plans, organizes and executes complex flight profiles and flight test events. Conducts briefings, debriefings, coordinates with maintenance personnel, engineers, and test directors to analyze and correct discrepancies. Act as engineering and data analysis liaison for Future Development Insertion for the System. Write technical reports for ground and flight test events. Attend Air Vehicle and Mission System Technical Interchange Meetings, Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, and Flight Readiness Reviews. Support engineering with development of test plans, procedures, and test cards. When designated as Test Conductor, be responsible for overall conduct of test, act as engineering and data analysis liaison for test conducted, and write technical reports for ground and flight test events. May conduct demonstration flights with customers, government officials, or other personnel to exhibit aircraft performance, flying qualities and system capabilities. Basic Qualifications: * Must have 9 years with Bachelors degree or 7 years with Masters degree * Must have experience as flight U.S. Military operations or flight test crewmember and be able to pass FAA Class III flight physical. * Minimum of 500 hours weapon system/mission system experience including multi-function radar (SAR/ISAR/Surface search), ESM and EO/IR systems. * Advanced user-level computer skills required within flight, simulator, and MS Office environments. * Must have an active Secret clearance. * Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule that may include extended shifts, weekends and holidays. * The ability to obtain and retain a Program Security Clearance is required as condition of employment. Preferred Qualifications: * Degree in Aviation, Aerospace, Science field strongly preferred. * Experience as a TACCO/Mission Commander in P-3 or P8 aircraft. * Experience with technical research and the use of engineering data, electronic technical manuals, and tasking subject matter experts to lead complex projects from analysis to implementation utilizing established processes, development software, and team members desired. * Test Pilot School graduate desired Northrop Grumman is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
