Key Responsibilities:

Provides engineering technical support during heavy maintenance checks for the United Airlines worldwide fleet of aircraft. Engineering support will include all repair and modification issues for Structures, Systems, Interiors, and Avionics. Investigate maintenance problems during base maintenance and initiate corrective actions to return aircraft to service in a safe, airworthy condition in a timely manner.

This position will be hired as a Principal Engineer level which requires a minimum of 10+ years' experience in aviation as an Engineer providing aircraft Engineering dispositions. This job is located at IAH Airport in Houston Texas. Regular attendance and punctuality are required at work locations and will require shift and weekend work. International travel is required.

Must have Engineering experience in aircraft heavy check environment which provided written repair dispositions. Dispositions which consisted of researching technical data, and developing aircraft repairs would include performing technical engineering substantiations through complex engineering analysis by hand and computer software programs and authoring engineering repair instructions for maintenance.

This Engineering position requires the development of complex solutions and implementation of written repair plans, while multi-tasking in a fast-paced work environment. All of this while maintaining a sharp focus on Safety and airworthiness and ensuring we deliver on-time reliable aircraft to the airline.

Must provide Engineering technical support for maintenance base operations by organizing and managing the priorities for aircraft in base check, while working to meet all the deliverables for hanger support. Coordinate support work with other operational groups to ensure airworthiness, safety, regulatory compliance, operational reliability, and operational efficiency.

Must have strong communication skills along with project management skills while maintaining a positive approach to working together.

As a Principal Engineer responsibility will include being the Engineering focal on the ESC HMV/OSV team to ensure we provide the best customer service to our Maintenance customers for issues that come up in base checks and help guide them to a conclusion. Be able to engage at the right time with the right resources at the right level to drive the best solutions.

  • Develop substantiating data for aircraft and equipment design/repairs through knowledge of aircraft operational characteristics, materials, and processes.

  • Responsible for the investigation, root cause analysis, and development of airworthy solutions for chronic aircraft issues.

  • Coordinates extensively with other United operational groups to ensure airworthiness, safety, regulatory compliance, warranty liaison, operational reliability, and efficiency.

  • Interfaces with internal and external organizations regarding specific aircraft and component issues.

  • Interfaces with industry, regulatory, and/or governmental agencies as required, and coordinates work with other operational groups to ensure airworthiness, safety, and regulatory compliance.

  • Organize and manage the priorities for assigned responsibilities and accomplish the work to meet all the deliverables for base maintenance aircraft.

What's needed to succeed:

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace) related technical field or equivalent relative work experience

  • Minimum of 10+ years' experience in aviation as an Engineer providing aircraft Engineering dispositions

  • Successful candidates must have a working knowledge of airline or OEM operations

  • Knowledge of Code of Regulations (CFRs) airworthiness design and substantiation criteria, aircraft and equipment design, and operational characteristics

  • Ability to interpret complex and technical Engineering and OEM documents

  • Highly detailed level project development and management for regulatory compliance modifications, and overall ownership of specific systems

  • Effective communication skills written and oral

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

  • Maintenance check engineering experience on Boeing and/or Airbus aircraft

  • Boeing/Airbus Structures I and II courses or equivalent

  • Knowledge of FARS (especially 145, 25, and 121)

  • Advanced engineering degree

  • Boeing/Airbus Composite Repair Course
