Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Principal Laboratory Systems Test Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, Florida.

Laboratory System Test Engineer synthesizes customer contractual needs and requirements into system test solutions that acknowledges technical, schedule and cost constraints. Develops and directs preparation and execution of comprehensive test plans, procedures and schedules for completing systems. Coordinates integrated testing activities. Reviews and evaluates test requirements to insure completeness of test program. Performs technical analysis of complete systems and prepares comprehensive system level evaluations.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform requirements analysis and decomposition including developing derived requirements as needed to test the system.

  • Develop test equipment and simulation requirements.

  • Develop Test Plans and Detailed Procedures.

  • Support Test Equipment Checkout and System Integration.

  • Support Test Execution as First Line Troubleshooter.

  • Perform as the hardware responsible engineer for the subsystem under test.

  • Perform technical interactions with the system test team to ensure system requirements are being verified.

  • Write Test Reports.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities to effectively lead a small team through all phases of integration and test from design of test philosophy to delivery to the customer.

  • Must be able to support both software integration test and qualification test activities; document test results; and identify and document software defects, then subsequently verify their correction.

  • The ability to organize tasks, communicate clearly using email, teleconferencing and basic office productivity tools such as MS Power Point, Project, Word and Excel are required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of test and/or integration engineering experience OR

  • Master's Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 3 years of test and/or integration engineering experience OR

  • PhD Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret or Top Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active U.S. Government security clearance at the DoD Secret or Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years

  • Current Special Program Access

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, Computer Science, Aerospace, Physics, or Mathematics

  • Previous experience integration and testing of air vehicle subsystems via labs, ground, or flight testing

  • Lab Test experience with air vehicle testing, Failure Modes and Effects (FMET), vehicle management system testing, or HW/SW Integration and Testing

  • System Test experience with the Integrated Functional Capability (IFC) Process

  • Knowledge of the following tools, DOORS, ViTech CORE, Fundamentals of Systems Engineering, VISIO, CPLM, and Automated Testing (Python, C , Java)

  • Experience testing manned or unmanned aircraft (via labs, ground or flight testing) or similar system test experience

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities to effectively lead a small team through all phases of integration and test from design of test philosophy to delivery to the customer

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management

Specific position task areas and responsibilities include developing system design, S/W tool development, test and analysis in the laboratory. You will be interfacing with world class Aerospace Industry partners that provide key technology, components and subsystems. You will be mentored and guided in your tasks by experienced EW engineers and will be part of an integrated product team working closely with other engineering disciplines to produce and test sensor systems.
