Hi, we're the UnOps Tribe in Cimpress Technology and we're looking for an empathetic leader for a tight-knit team of capable engineers to make our Mass Customization Platform operationally excellent.

Cimpress Technology is looking for a passionate and empathetic leader for a tight-knit team of engineers focused on making our Mass Customization Platform operationally excellent. The Mass Customization Platform (MCP) is an ever growing and changing set of RESTful microservices built from the ground up in AWS and is leveraged by businesses across Cimpress such as Vistaprint, WIRmachenDruck, and PixartPrinting to mass customize (read: print things on things) better. The MCP is central to our strategy for success as a company and we need you to wear a few hats in order to ensure it and the teams who build it continue to lead the industry in deliverability, observability, and reliability!

In this role, you'll own the continuous improvement of our Platform's deliverability, observability, and reliability. You'll drive the selection, implementation, continuous reevaluation, and success of the tools and services we utilize in order to achieve this. You'll also identify and pursue opportunities to create some of your own where necessary. You'll baseline and improve key operational metrics and stop at nothing to make them better. This will all add up to more customer confidence in our key product technology and a stronger Cimpress as a result. The scope of opportunity and impact is large, and there's plenty to capture. Woo!

To tackle this, we're looking for an intelligent problem solver, technology leader / visionary, and general getter of... things, done. Sometimes you'll wear your team lead and manager hat, sometimes you'll wear your lead engineer hat, sometimes strategic visionary, sometimes SRE, but always your senior operations leader in Cimpress Technology in the ops things that devs do.

In order to really crush this, you should be comfortable with varied microservice architectures in addition to your solid operations foundation. Hard to do the devops without the dev. You will need to plug directly into the pulse of development teams building and operating our platform, and will add velocity to the operational flywheel within Cimpress Technology while working to improve our top level performance and reliability, driving stronger outcomes in our bottom line. If you're looking for an open ended challenge with a broad scope in this space, and you lead by example, this role is for you! If you're passionate about new technologies and bringing its value to Cimpress' customers, this role is probably also for you!

In those role you will probably at least

  • Lead a tight-knit team of engineers who do dev and ops things

  • Help to baseline and improve key operational metrics driven by ~50 squads located across North America, Europe, and Asia

  • Manage relationships with vendors and contracts for key operational technologies

  • Move the needle on high level ops problems creatively with the help of your team and others

  • Work with developers building microservices in the cloud (just about all AWS) to empower them operationally

  • Develop and maintain a small handful of chiefly important custom services

  • Own the strategic direction and tactical execution of everything above

It'd be great if you had

  • A sixth sense for good operational practice paired with development experience across varied architectures and languages (NodeJS, .NET, Python, and Java are some real examples)

  • Solid command of SCM, build automation, and deployment technologies and practices

  • Familiarity with these specific technologies, or similar ones: GitLab (SCM, CICD, SAST, etc), SumoLogic, NewRelic, PagerDuty, Cloud development (AWS preferred, GCP, Azure), Artifactory

  • Experience managing a team of high-achievers

  • Effective communication skills since your team works with a lot of other humans

  • Experience owning relationships with vendors from beginning to end

  • The compassion and empathy needed to succeed in CT

  • Experience leading software development initiatives

We value

  • Leadership, not dictatorship

  • Empathy and compassion

  • Drive, independence, and accountability

  • Ownership, desire, and commitment to achieving results with an insatiable, creative, stop at nothing approach to getting there
