The Principle Engineer - Design is a critical member of a New Product Development team that is focused on designing innovative Aerial Work Platform products. This includes all phases of product development from concept creation through production launch. This role will have primary technical responsibility for a major subsystem in the aerial work platform, including concept creation/selection, finalized design, cost analysis, prototype and testing support.

YOUR IMPACT

  • You will participate in the budgeting process to include recommending capital improvements and preparing justification data as required

  • This position researches, studies, and proposes use of new technologies to be used in the development of new and improved products

  • You will maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and outside resources concerning technical issues

  • This role will help enforce the proper use of engineering criteria and drawing standards. Ensure that technical issues are conducted within the framework of company policies and procedures

  • You will evaluate designs for performance, safety, and reliability

  • This role directs preparation of layouts, drawings, specifications, and bills of material

  • You will create and maintain project documentation for project planning, requirements analysis, risk management, issues management, status reporting, project communication, quality assurance, research and historical records

  • You will perform engineering analysis to support to the selection of parts, components, and materials that meet requirements

  • This position will provide technical assistance for prototype, pilot, and production support

  • Analyze and resolve issues reported to Engineering via verbal or written communication

  • Provide guidance to team members to ensure the appropriate engineering analysis is performed and documented

  • You will get to provide leadership to a technical staff to ensure program success. Assure designs meet customer requirements, statutory requirements, and corporate objectives

  • This role will prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations

YOUR EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE

  • Bachelor's of Science in Engineering and 5 years of relative experience

  • The ability to obtain a secret security clearance

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with a high level cad system

  • PMP certification

  • Possess a strong mechanical knowledge of vehicles and related systems

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

If so, keep reading and apply today!</p><p>THE ROLE</p><p>As a Principal Safety and Reliability Engineer on JLG's New Product Development team, you will have the unique responsibility for the interpretation, planning, and execution of Safety, Regulatory, and/or Reliability requirements for JLG Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs). You will fill a critical role on the team due to your experience and expertise in hazard identification, risk assessment, safety system analysis, and machine electronic controls.</p><p>HOW YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE</p><ul><li><p>You will assess safety hazards, regulatory impact, reliability characteristics, and associated tradeoffs of machine components and subsystems, to include vehicle layouts, block diagrams, bills of material, and drawings/schematics of components and assemblies</p></li><li><p>You will conduct and document risk assessment studies and analysis of changes/issues affecting Safety/Compliance/Reliability</p></li><li><p>You will perform analysis of Safety Related Parts of Control Systems per EN 13849-1 and IEC 62061</p></li><li><p>You will construct and submit Technical Construction Files for European and Australian product certification</p></li><li><p>You will enforce the proper use of engineering criteria and internal Safety/Reliability standards</p></li><li><p>You will ensure the program defines and collects evidence in meeting established Safety/Reliability requirements</p></li><li><p>You will participate in the development of testing activities to assure Safety/Reliability requirements are met</p></li><li><p>You will review and provide input to Systems, Design, Test, and Software Engineering documentation consistent with project phase; this would include requirements development, design and performance verification, and test plan development</p></li></ul><p>WHAT YOU NEED</p><ul><li>Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent</li><li>5 plus years system safety or reliability and maintainability experience</li></ul><p>WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT</p><ul><li>Familiarity with hazard identification and risk assessment based on EN ISO 12100</li><li>Experience with the EU Machinery Directive</li></ul><ul><li><p>2006/42/EC and the Global MEWP Standards</p></li><li><p>ANSI 92.20, EN280, CSA B354.6, AS/NZS 1418.10</p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Possess a strong mechanical knowledge of construction machinery vehicles and related systems</p></li><li><p>Good working knowledge of electronic and hydraulic machine control systems</p></li><li><p>Strong knowledge of the application of EN ISO 13849 and IEC/EN 62061 to Safety System Analysis</p></li><li><p>Familiarity with system/software/hardware design, verification, and validation processes</p></li><li><p>Proficient in performing Hazard Analysis, Risk Assessment, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, etc.</p></li><li><p>Able to travel in support of customer meetings and reviews</p></li></ul><p>Oshkosh is committed to working with and offering reasonable accommodation to job applicants with disabilities.
