Principal Data Engineer

Office hybrid in San Francisco, Seattle or Indianapolis

Salesforce is embarking on our own Digital Transformation to deliver customer success for our customers and accelerate our growth. A key pillar of this transformation is building a strong data foundation to support all of our core marketing needs through intelligent data sets as a service.

As our Principal Engineer, you will work closely with our Director of Engineering to ensure technical alignment across our various work streams. You will implement standard methodology and design across our scrum teams.

We are seeking a highly skilled, expert Principal Engineer who is proficient in Salesforce development and possesses strong data engineering skills. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of Salesforce development such as Flows, Apex, and the Salesforce Data Model, coupled with a robust implementation background in data engineering technologies. This individual will play a pivotal role in architecting and implementing solutions that leverage Salesforce capabilities while ensuring seamless integration with our data engineering infrastructure.

This is a phenomenal opportunity for someone who is passionate about building scalable, resilient, distributed systems that collect, process, and analyze large volumes of operational data.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of Salesforce solutions, using Apex, Flows and other Salesforce technologies to meet business requirements.

  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions within the Salesforce ecosystem.

  • Architect scalable and maintainable solutions that adhere to standard methodologies and optimize performance.

  • Lead architecture discussions about solutions.

  • Work with Architecture groups in Salesforce to build our scalable/robust Marketing Automation Platform.

  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical leadership and encouraging a culture of innovation and excellence.

  • Drive the adoption of data engineering best practices and technologies across the organization, including Python, SQL, Airflow, DBT, Snowflake, etc.

  • Design and develop data pipelines, ETL processes, and data models to support business analytics and reporting requirements.

  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with regulatory standards throughout the data lifecycle.

  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends, continuously enhancing technical expertise and driving innovation within the team.

Qualification and Skills:

  • You have to love data - this is what we do. We are looking for people who are excited about different and unique data sets, and all the ways that they could be used in order to improve user experience.

  • A relevant technical degree is required.

  • 15+ years total experience and 10+ years of relevant experience within Data Engineering and Salesforce Domain.

  • Consistent record of leading end to end data engineering solutions

  • Solid understanding of RDBMS concepts, data structures and distributed data processing patterns.

  • Strong experience building data pipelines and orchestration through components like AWS Lambdas, Airflow, DBT etc.

  • Strong data manipulation and database modeling skills. Must be proficient in SQL, understand how to design and evaluate data models (conceptual, logical and physical), and have the ability to closely partner with data engineers and architects to maintain analytical data marts from transactional web data.

  • Hands on Python experience is must.

  • Experience with Cloud technologies like AWS.

  • Data Cloud experience highly preferred.

  • Salesforce Development (Flows, Apex etc.)

  • Salesforce products and data model experience.

  • Deep hands-on experience in sophisticated event driven architectures and streaming processing in a variety of technologies.

  • Consistent record in building products on production-grade systems.

  • Partner with Product Managers, Data Scientists and partners to understand customer requirements and design prototypes and bring ideas to production.

  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies, common scrum practices and tools.

  • Preference to the candidates having certification or hands on experience with Salesforce Data Cloud.

For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $204,400 to $296,400.

For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $223,000 to $323,400.

Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, benefits.
