Position Description:

Develops technical solutions to prevent cyber fraud using a wide range of technical and data management tools and technologies -- DB2, Snowflake, Oracle, MongoDB, Redshift, and PostgreSQL. Architects, crafts, and develops highly scalable distributed data processing systems using Amazon Web Services (AWS), Python, Spark, and Kanban. Develops databases by writing and optimizing SQL queries and stored procedures using SQL, PL/SQL, Python, and shell scripting languages. Maintains documents and sprint related activities using JIRA and Confluence. Deploys NIFI flow to Cloud (AWS EKS, and EC2 cluster) using containerization. Creates external or internal tables in Snowflake pointing to storage location. Confers with systems analysts and other software engineers/developers to design systems and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Designs, implements, and maintains the organization's database systems.

  • Maintains the performance, availability, and security of databases.

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure data integrity and access.

  • Monitors, evaluates, and ensures the completion of tasks and projects.

  • Participates in production support activities.

  • Resolves and provides input before Service Level Agreement (SLA) time lapses.

  • Leads the software development, architecture, testing, implementation, production, and support of databases.

  • Ensures the scalability, reliability, performance, and security of the databases by performing database tuning and optimization techniques.

  • Troubleshoots and resolves issues with databases and related systems by continuously monitoring and optimizing database performance.

  • Assists with database applications and data source dependency mapping by reverse engineering data flows.

  • Builds automated processes that streamline and eliminate manually intensive data processes to provide higher operational excellence and efficiencies.

  • Develops and oversees software system testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Applied Computer Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Data Engineer (or closely related occupation) developing data applications to support legal, risk, and compliance analytical platforms.

Or, alternatively, Master's degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Applied Computer Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Data Engineer (or closely related occupation) developing data applications to support legal, risk, and compliance analytical platforms.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise ("DE") designing, developing, transforming, and validating compliance data using Spark, Scala, Python, Snowflake, and AWS S3 with Qubole big data platform.
  • DE creating auditing reports, implementing reporting solutions, performing data analysis, and establishing data access using Cassandra, Oracle, AWS EC2, Docker Kubernetes Cluster, or Microsoft Azure blob storage.
  • DE implementing data components (databases, tables, views, types, stored procedures, functions, roles, and queries) for legal, compliance, risk, and security applications on relational databases (Postgres or Snowflake) using SQL and PL/SQL queries.
  • DE constructing feature engineering and cleansing data using Python, Hive, or Spark; performing data retention and application integration, using advanced transformation techniques (from SQL, Hive, Informatica, or NiFi) and Big Data tools (Spark, Hadoop, or Snowflake) for legal, compliance, risk, and security applications.
